Hi guys:here's the question my buddy has an old win 92 in 32wcf made in 1906,it is in rough shape no finish left some pitting on the metal,the bore looks like a sewer pipe. We found the parts to get it functioning,now he thinks we should possibly get the barrel relined,and the carbine reblued.what would this do to the value? right now it looks like a P.O.S but it is functional & if you were to try and sell it (not that he 's gonna cause it was his granpa's) you could probably only get like $300.00 for it. If money was no object he could send it to someone like Doug Turnbull in the U.S. and have it professionally restored by some one who is an expert in the feild,Is there anyone in Canada that does this kind of work?

If it is only worth 300 now, you don't really have to worry about losing value. For my values, I would make it mechanically functional and probably sleeve the barrel, assuming that you want to shoot the gun but not refinish and reblue the metal. I think doing so would increase the value of the gun a little but probably not as much as the cost of the repairs. Given the guns history, I would think you would want to keep the gun in a used but cared for condition.

barrel in 32 cheaper than a liner would cost you and no customs

I recently faced the same question with a 92, made in 1903 and also chambered for 32wcf.
The overall condition of the gun was very good for its age but the barrel was toast. I elected to reline the barrel and leave the rest of the gun as is.

I couldn't hit a 16 inch square target at 15 yards with the gun to begin with. After the reline the the gun's accuracy truly astounded me. Three shot groups, also at 15 yards, you could cover with my thumb nail!
