I haven't seen this posted lately...I can't remember where it came from...but here it is again:

1.-mask the gold ring with 1/8" pinstripe tape. the gold ring is painted aluminum and will sand off if not covered.
Can also use to encircle numbers on power band, if you do
not want to repaint numbers.

2.-wipe scope clean of oil or finger prints, I used Coleman
camp fuel.

3.-lightly scuff with 400 grit or finer paper. Original paint is quite soft and thin, so little effort is required.

4.-trace out circles on wax paper same size as both lenses,
and cut out. Can use sockets, or trace lenses and cut a bit
smaller. Place paper on lenses and cover with masking tape,
squeeze into corners with dull pointed tool or thumb nail
if you got any. Trim off excess. I masked internal threads,
with pinstripe, but paint applied quite thin so not sure it's necessary.Mask brass Leupold Crosshairs on LH centre.

5.-applied electricians putty to index holes, fore and aft
of power ring.Press in small ball of putty and trim off excess with razor knife.

6.-Jig was made with what was on hand. 1-2x4 18" to 20" long. Two 1x2 9" long . 4-2 1/2" wood screws. 2-1/4x5" bolts. Two rubber suction cups.(the kind found in fish
aquariums to hold thermoeters etc.
Hold both 1x2's together and drill 1/4" hole through both,
near one end. Screw 1x2's on each end of 2x4, to form a U
shape, similar to an upright(football goalpost)1/4" holes at
the top.Install 1/4" bolts(or rod) through holes, and place
suctoin cups on ends of bolts. This will suspend scope, as
well as being able to rotate scope, by turning bolt.

7.-Wipe scope down with camp fuel to remove any prints and
set in jig. Warm scope with blow dryer to a few degrees
above room temperature. Paint seems to have less tendency to
run, smooths out better, and dries quicker.

8.-I used good old Tremclad, flat black, auto rust gloss
paint. There may be something better, but this was on hand.
Apply at 90 degree angle, to avoid spraying paint under power ring, and remember to spray into lense area, to cover
inside rim. Hold can about 10" away ,to avoid coating to heavy, and avoiding runs. Two light coats.

9.-let dry a few hours(overnight)and peel off pinstripe,and
masking tape.Toothpick will remove putty from index dots.
