Refinishing stocks??????

I have an old mohawk 600 .222 and the stock around the butt end is getting a little banged up. I am wanting to redo this stock but not sure what to do. Its a nice stock so should I refinish it back to how it looks now? Or I was thinking of going black with maybe some camo(white/winter) is it will be my coyote rig.

So I am looking for some how to's and opinions?!?!

If you want it to look like wood, I suggest you do a google search on stock refinishing, then follow the instructions. Basically, you will strip the finish, then sand until the dsired wood surface is attained, then (if you want) stain, and finish, with copious amounts of sanding inetween. if you want a cammo, finish, go to Canadian Tire, buy the colours of paint you think will look good, make or buy some patterns (or just use leaves), and start spraying. There are some good pointers on this sight if you do a search, about painting stocks. - dan

I think a nice durable finish is to sand, stain, then use Birchwood Casey Tru oil. Wears real good and doesnt scratch like a urethane. If you paint it, the finish can be easily damaged, with any paints I've worked with.
