I got sick of my bland factory savage model 12FLVSS in .22-250 and those terrible mold lines on the stock so I finally got off my rear and did something. I bought the Advanced tiger stripe kit from Duracoat and got going. First I sanded down the stock until the mold lines were gone, the basically painted and stuck on the stencils. Quite simple really. Didn't take more then an afternoon. After i got all the painting done I figured with the 26" heavy barrel my 4-12X40mm Leupold rifleman was just not enough scope so I went down to a particular Tactical Rifle shop in Calgary ;) and he set me up with a relatively cheap priced 6.5-24X55mm with a 30mm tube that they had been using on their .50cals. After that was mounted with leupold high rings I noticed that needed a adjustable cheek rest because i was virtually chinning the rifle to see through the scope. So an order went in to Rooster 33 and after a month and a half and numerous calls I finally got the cheek rest and the rest is history.

Only problem now is after numerous trips to busy gopher communities its not groupin so good. The barrel has gotten roasting hot on several occasions and now I fear I've burned out the barrel. Now it only groups sub MOA if you give it a minute or 2 between shots. A good 1500+ rounds have gone down the tube.

You may have caused irrepairable damage to the barrel by shooting it to the point of way too hot. Have you de-coppered it lately though? Copper fouling can also do this....regardless, if you have to slow between shots slightly and the accuracy is the same, then just slow between shots.....nice looking rifle BTW...

My guess would be that it just needs a good cleaning,get some CR 10 or Wipe out and get rid of all the copper fouling and it will most likely shoot again.Nice job on the stock.

+1, 22-250 is a great varmint caliber and lays the smackdown to some good distances but it is slightly overbore. I would hazard a guess that some throat erosion has occured from overheating. Give it a thorough cleaning and try it again at the range and see how it shoots. Idealy if there is a borescope in your vicinity have someone take a look down the tube and see what it looks like. We are fortunate enough that one of the gunshops in town has a borescope now.

Initially B4 I went the way of the 6BR I was going to rebarrel my 22-250 with the same but was advised not to by my gunsmith. He stated that I would start to see accuracy dropping off sooner than I would like it to thus the switch to the 6BR. With the right twist and right bullets it will lay the smackdown just as well.

I've decoppered and the whole bit. Like I said though, she shoots sub MOA if I let the gun sit for a minute or so between shots. Its so damn hard to keep the barrel cool on plus 30C days though. Not only that but not to pull the trigger with gophers in plain site.

I personally hate the feel of smooth stocks, nothing to grip when you got winter mits on and are crawlin through the snow too. I found they gave it a stylistic look and tied the rest of the rifle together. Blacked out flutes, black checkering, black scope, black cheek rest.

That's why it is a must to have a few varmint guns in the field with you. Say a pair of twin 22-250's and possibly a 17HMR or 17Ackley Hornet.:D :D
 
I got a .17HMR as the usual workhorse but every now and then you want to see a couple of the little buggers go flying. Lovin that .17HMR though, best every varmint caliber I've come across. Small and quiet enough that you don't need hearing protection yet powerful enough to take out rabbits and cats.
 
Yeah I wana get a cheek rest for my HS precision stock to match its tan colour roughly. I wear bulky electronic earmuffs so that could be another problem with my cheek mould so I am gona try slimer ones first. What I am trying to say is Left Hand Pride (even if the ###s have ruined the meaning of the word). Looks pretty! I love it.

Have you glass bedded the action?
 
I definately have not. Originally it would put the groups under an inch all day and I saw no need to spend the money to do so. Maybe when the barrel has finally gone to #### and i need a new one i will put out the cash to do so. I also wonder if i should get a different caliber, .243 maybe, or .308.
