Can someone please comment on weather or not the r in 1951r on the top of my russian sks's dustcover determines that that firearm was refurbished and all parts were given new serial numbers when the rifle was refurbished??

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

The r denotes “year”, it has nothing to do with refurbishment.

^^this.

Not all refurbished Soviet sks's have the telltale refurb stamps.

If you post some HD, close up photos of the rifle, it'll be easy to tell you which (if any) signs of refurbishment are exhibited, as well as the extent of refurbishment.

Generally refurbished guns have force matched numbers. The most common things to be replaced during refurb is the gas tube, gas piston, and rear sight.

If anything has an electro penciled serial number then it's been refurbed.

If you find any of these markings it is definitely refurbished. However if it bears none of these markings it may still have been refurbished.

Thanks everyone, turns out I thought I knew more than I did. I assumed...never assume...lol that what a friend told me was true without doing my own research on the subject. Ill take that as I learned something new today:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

The letter R has nothing to do with being refurbed or not . is the rifle blued or painted black or some other coating ? are all numbers on it matching the bolt the mag and it being a 51 should have a Birch stock and the number 51 with a star should be on the stock with an inspectors stamp on the other side of the stock . and ahead of the bolt there is another bolt going through the stock . around that bolt should be little numbers and letters stamped around it . is the number on the bottom of your mag the same number as on the bolt and the side of the stock ? well if it isn't blued and all the stamps aren't in place and all the numbers aren't matching then it's a refurb.

if you like it keep it and shoot it . the only new numbers it would be given would be on the bottom of the mag and the side of the stock if it was refurbed .
