I see horseman2 posted a 100Meter/Yard Challenge but it is more directed to pure target rifles. Which many regulars would be discouraged by. I wanted to get people out of their comfort zone and just have a regular NO BS 100M/Y challenge.

Shoot whatever target you want, I'm going to limit it to regular rimfire rifles, nothing hardcore target, scopes less than 12X. Something you could carry in the woods. Will be an iron sight and scope class. It is opened to not just 22LR. So, 17HMR, 22MAG, 25 rimfire, 32 rimfire.. Basically any rimfire rifle.

Rules would be as following.

Use whatever target you want, that will make clean holes. ( IMHO a group is a group, no matter the target used )
Must shoot (3) 10 round groups, with the groups clearly visible.
1 picture of the targets and the rig you use ( who doesn't like showing off their gun ? )
Can use bipod and or bags. No lead sleds etc.

I'll use this rule from the other challenge ( Fresh target please )
There cannot be anything on your target that could be hiding any group or bullet hole that is not part of your "official" attempt

Manly want people to have fun and challenge themselves.

Winners will get a 20$ Tim Hortons Gift Card. Challenge will start August 4th and go till Nov 11th

Good Luck, enjoy, have some fun.
Robert

Anything that gets people out shooting 22 at longer than usual ranges is a win in my book. I guess I’ll have to buy a membership here to post pics easily. I’ll keep my 4-16 scoped 10/22 on 12X for this one.

I start summer leaves tomorrow, I’ll give a shot at your "no bs/no pressure" challenge. Great idea thanks :p

Nice.

There will be no negative criticism, or bullying, just encouragement. Just trying to have people try something new and have fun. I know my entries would be laughable to some.

Thank You!!!

I'm in and will post my results the next time I'm at my cabin and I'll stick to my cardboard box material with neon pink dots as my targets.

This sounds fun. I’m in
I got a cz452 with a 4.5-14 on it (can I just run it at 12x for the challenge?)
I also got a Dlask/Kidd 16.5” 1022 that I would like to enter. Unless you call that a target gun?

I will give it a go with my CZ sporters, and low mag rimfire scopes,....with no parallax focus - uh oh! :sok2 !. Looking forward to it! :)

Just a comment of clarification: There are traditionally used names for classes of rifle that distinguish between "target" and other types of rifles. "Sporter" class and "Varmint" class are common terms used. "Varmint" some would argue (me included) is a target class of heavy barrel. Varmint rifles are heavy and most hunters would not normally want to carry one when out walking over hill and dale and bushwhacking for upland small game. But they would use their varmint class rimfire in open fields for setting up on a rest or bipod for groundhogs and ground squirrels, or plinking targets. For defining match classes one method is to stipulate in the fine print what diameter limit of muzzle is the cutoff between Sporter and Varmint, or use the manufacturer's model name definition as a rough guide. For example CZ makes the 452, 455 and 457 in both varmint and sporter barrel models.

From the gist of the OP, I am guessing you meant "sporter" class rifles for this challenge?

My modified/upgraded CZ 457 identifies as a Sporter rifle. In addition my scope's mag power of 25x is just 12x with reading glasses... Hehehe.

Sorry this might exclude people, or piss people off. When I mean hardcore.

I mean people that this is all they do. Have 2K + bench rest target rifles, Olympic rifles, bench rest special rest, Sinclair bipod, 20x scopes, fly wind flags etc. Something that they wouldn't take out In the woods. There is a challenge opened for them.

I'm just trying to get those that might get discouraged, thinking I don't have a chance since someone going to enter with a full blown target rifle or shoot with special equipment. I find alot of challenges are suited for those have to do one hole groups, you cannot compete without spending lots of money.

This is for the people that have just a Henry lever, Cooey, 1022 bull barrel, stuff that people wouldn't consider hardcore target gun. But something you will see dispatching varmints, or occasional target shooting.

Finally got a day that isn't smokey as all hell here, been itching to get out to the range. Will give it a go and post my results!

Well, nobody interested in this challenge? I was at the range today and decided to get the old (40+ years) Ruger 1022 carbine out at the range and see what it can still do. The rifle is basically stock with a couple of minor enhancements. It has the bolt release mod done and an extended after market mag release. The scope is a bit over the top, it is a Vortex Diamondback 4-16X40, It was a typical Ontario summer day, 26 C and really humid. The wind was moderate, about 6mph and from the 3 o'clock position. To stay within the stated parameters, I used CCI Standard Velocity ammo and a Harris bipod and Caldwell rear bag. The target dots are 2" and the range is just shy of 100m, about 106yards). So here are results:

I know this result does not impress the guys with their, Bergaras, CZ457s, Tikka T1Xs, etc., but I'm quite happy with this result. At 50y/m, I can routinely get 1" 10-shots groups and 5-shot groups are usually well under that.

Good shooting. This is exactly what this challenge is about. More directed towards getting out and trying something new. Not really who has the most $$$ rifle.

This is reality though. Nice to see. I’ve got a factory 10/22 with a Bentz chamber that does a bit better with CCISV. It has the same scope you use. I’ll try to find a picture of some groups.

No people are interested in this challenge, just not interested in going through the trouble to print an “official” target on card stock…

There is no offical target.. Use whatever you want. You're thinking of the other challege directed towards more hardcore target shooters.

This is correct. Anyone looking at targets in this thread shouldn't confuse them with anything that's been standardized.

Use any target or put three aim points on a piece of paper and you're good to go.

I might jump on this one for fun. I've only got a 1-4x on my 10/22 but I'll give it a try either way.

It's a bit of a challenge even at 4X to get a good group at 100y. I found for shooting at 100y/m, using a large, say 3" or 4" diamond shaped aiming mark works best. Put the crosshairs on the bottom point of the diamond rather than the center. This will give the best accuracy usually. If you want your shots centered, you can adjust your elevation accordingly. Here's a sample of the targets (these are for 50y and are 1"):
