Regular bought .308 ammo safe to use in m305 shorties?

Whats wrong with AE ammo? I don't have any issues with it.....

Not sayin don't use it, just sayin I don't use it. Never had any issue with the AE 223 stuff but in x39 and x51 I've had 3 case seperations x39 in a sks , case rupture just below neck, complete seperation. And 2 times in an M14s with a 1.636" chamber, 1 a neck seperation and the other a complete base seperation. I just won't use it, I don't trust the AE brass.

To complete M14doctor, there was a thread here in 2011 were the guy had a case separation. So the front of the case stayed in the chamber, the next round chambered partially and the floating firing pin struck the soft primer (not mil-spec), SLAMFIRE. Is rifle disassembled instantly...

If you want I have a sealed case of AE308B for sale on the EE...

I know these aren't precision instruments but is that kind of accuracy typical of off the shelf Chinese M14's? I've been toying with the idea of getting one of these and maybe making a SOCOM type clone.

Some of them out of the box will group into an ashtray. With match ammo and some tweaking I've gotten a box stock rifle down to an inch and sometimes UNDER an inch. Police Armorers I've taught have dipped down into the half inch range, but that's another story! And yes, with their CHU Wood (I hate that soft wood for a stock) stocks, no less.

SOCOM Type Clone? Get one of the new shorties from Canada Ammo! It's already cut down for you!

This is a group shot with an out of the box Norinco M305 after the M14 Doc worked his magic and shortened it, etc. First shot is on the left edge of target (my fault). Next 4 shots are centered. This was at 100 meters with iron sights and reloads. Thomas told me that this particular rifle has an extremely tight chamber, well within NM specs. His trigger job also made a huge difference. They are well made rifles, especially the newer ones.

Awsome group. I was under the impression that the chinese M14's were nowhere near as accurate as they appear to be, even off the shelf without the tweaks. I was impressed with my chinese SKS (decent groups... for me anyway!) so I guess similar results could be expected with these.

NATO and commercail ammo have the same pressure limits. Thatis not an issue.

The M14 has a gas port part way down the barrel. As a bullet moves down the barrel, the pressure drops. If the powder is fast (4895) the pressure at the port is the correct (moderate) level to cycle the action.

If the bullet is a heavy bullet, typically loaded with a slower powder, the port pressure is high, and this beats up the action. The chamber pressure of the heavy bullet is the same as the lighter bullet, but the port pressure is higher.

A handloader can use heavy bullets all day long, so long as he sticks with 4895 or varget.
