Regular dies vs. Cowboy dies

I have a new Marlin 1894 in 45 Colt, and have a set of RCBS Cowboy loading dies. I was reading a magazine article last night and the author used both Cowboy dies and what looked like a regular set of RCBS dies. There was no mention as to the difference between the two.

I dont use it to shoot Cowboy action. I do us it at the Sillouette range ou to 200 yds.

Loading dies must be optimized for lead bullets. That's where the new RCBS Cowboy dies and bullet moulds come in.

Our Cowboy dies are built to slightly different dimensions than our regular dies to allow optimum sizing, expanding, seating and crimping needed to load great lead bullet ammo. In keeping with the spirit of the game, Cowboy dies even look different. Instead of the satin steel finish on the other RCBS dies, Cowboy dies have a "case-hardened" look.

I think the idea was that they would accomodate larger than normal boolit diameters.

When I can no longer load my cast loads with regular RCBS, Lee, and Lyman dies, I'll check these out. That said the 12ga brass ones look neat. Too bad Lee didnt do a set for $25.
