Getting back into shotgunning and skeet after many years of absence. I was wondering what people prefer : a regular or extended choke? To me extended seems a bit odd, but it may be better?

Extended chokes are easier to change and protect the end of the barrel. They most likely pattern better and factory flush chokes are often mislabeled.

Here is my 2 cents. I got all extended briley chokes. They are all different colours on the tip outside of the barrel. Makes it so much EASIER to see what choke you are putting in.

If you are getting a full set also get the speed wrench!!!

Kinda like war'in kah-bouy bewts.
Tuck the pantelones in oar leaf them owt?
How much mud ya like in yer bewts?
Least owt ya can git a pipe wrench awn them stuck rahskawls.

The guys that spent a few hundred on extended chokes will say they love them... the guys who don't want to spend a few hundred on extended chokes will say they are not necessary.

I run Carlson extended and love them. Just for the quick simple fact I can change while hunting with ease. IC when birds coming in short and MOD when hanging out further. I don't go by the close range, mid range, extended range crap though that a lot of chokes are labelled.

I have both and can't make a strong argument in favour of either. What matters is the actual pattern. Pattern your gun. Use the choke that gives you the best result on the board no matter what make or configuration it happens to be.

I have a few guns with both, but I much prefer fixed chokes on my guns.
No need to change them, never need tightening, nice clean look at the muzzle, and no extra cost- unless you buy the gun new and fixed chokes are an option!:p

WTF did you just say Luke???
OP , are you shooting games or are you shooting at live game animals?
Personally if it where shooting live game animals( ducks, geese or pheasants ) I would leave one choke in for the day .
Shooting geese of decoys is one thing, but shooting true pairs at Station Five might be slightly different from Station Four.
Just my .05 worth.

I like extended chokes as the longer parrallel section inside them gives the shot a chance to "settle" into its new spot. Short chokes give less consistant resaults in tighter choke patterns as the back of the string is getting squeezed down in dia it can actually squirt out shot at the front of the coloumb just exiting the barrel...a longer choke prevents this.
Also as someone else mentioned it makes checking for tightness, instalation and removeal much easier

I've got extended and flush and prefer the extended 'cause ease of swapping. Otherwise, I like the clean look of flush. I went for convenience over looks. :p

Come awn up and we'll take ya fish'in.

Pattern the chokes that you have and see how they work. If they pattern well, then there is no need to spend the money on new chokes. My preference is for extended chokes.
