Hey folks,

I'm working on a wood stock and came across this video by Larry Potterfield

I was just wondering if anyone thought it was a good idea or not? I've done some reading and some are replacing the steel rod with a piece of fishing rod.

It's a great idea but go to the nearest hobby shop and buy a length of carbonfibre tube (8-10mm) and use gorilla glue (original is all I've used)foamed with water (search youtube) Super light weight and very stiff. If you can fine the square tube in the same sizes get it and install it with the corners facing up, down, left, right. Diamond shape?

I wonder if I could find a broken carbon arrow shaft if that would work just as well?

Sure, it would work fine. I would recommend that you try to find the square stuff at the hobby shop as I find it way stiffer than any round stock for the same weight but an arrow shaft will still be a huge improvement over most other materials. Make sure to use the foamed Gorilla glue though as it weighs probably 1/10th of the weight of epoxy and it really holds well. Also if you do use an arrow shaft make sure you don't have any splintered or cracked sections in the piece you use as it loses all it's rigidity when the structure is damaged.
