Relationship between powder charge vs lead charge

Hi guys. I'm about to start my first attempt at shotgun reloading (first reloading of any kind). I've asked a friend to bring me my first pile of supplies which I now have, but there is really no "official" recipe for the combination of components I have...and I think in the end I'll be ok with it, but I have I question.

When you make a shotshell you use a specific hull, primer, powder, powder charge, wad, mass of lead.

If I hold all else constant, but decrease the mass of lead...what effect will that have on pressure? decrease right?

The reason I ask is because this is the most applicable recipe I have:

Lead Shot 12 1 1/8 oz. Clays Ched. 209 WAA12 15.8 9,400 PSI 1090
Lead Shot 12 1 1/8 oz. Clays Ched. 209 WAA12 17.2 10,700 PSI 1145

but I have WAA12SL (1oz) wads...there are no 1oz loads that use cheddite primers that I can find.

What I'm thinking is that if I use the recipes above as starting points for my powder charge and but only use 1oz of lead I should wind up having lower pressures than what they list for 1 1/8 oz load...please confirm.

I'm just making skeet loads so all I really want is loads that will cycle my semi auto reliably...they don't need to be fast or anything.

according to win website, waa12sl can be used with 1&1/8 oz loads. Using smaller shot charge normally gives less pressure, but could cause a squib load, wad and/or shot stays in barrel(dangerous). Look for a primer equivalency chart(to cheddite), and use load for that equivalent primer.

I've never heard of an equivalency chart for primers (though that's not saying much)

when I googled it I just found a bunch of posts saying they are "a little hotter than win209...back off 0.5 grains" and such.

I have found there about the same if not a little colder then winchester 209. Chrony confirms, i just replace for the other. Are you staying with that powder? What shell are you using?
my book says with clays powder and in winchester hulls can be 17.5-19 grns, with a waa12sl, 1196-1254 fps and 9500-10800psi with 1 oz load. with a Rem hull, 17grn, 1206fps and 10600psi.
