Looking for a reliable, dependable shotgun to carry in "bear country". I have narrowed it down to three semi-autos. I would appreciate any comments as to using the following.#1 Benelli, #2 Fabarm, #3Beretta. Thanking you in advance for your input.:)

Ya, semi-auto's are good and fast cycling, but what is the chance of a stovepipe/jam. Wouldn't you prefer a pump action?

For bear country I think the ultimate package would be a Remington 870 pump gun with a rifled barrel + a mag extension. I would loead it with Winchester Supreme 12.Gauge 3" magnums 385 grain Partition Gold (Hollow-point) travelling at 2000 fps...now thats a bear round...massive energy, and a devestating blow thats sure to stop that sucker with a couple solid hits.

sxs the way to go if it were me, no faster and more dependable two shots to be had, rifled slugs more than accurate enough for your task i'm sure. or slug and 000 buck. thats my 2c's.

Definitely the Benelli if a semi-auto is your choice.

I think a pump gun is a better idea but only if the owner is willing to put the time in practising with it. The pump gun's reliability is more operator dependent.

870 with 2 3/4 inch shells. Any time it counts load 2 3/4 inch shells. Bear wont know the difference. What ever you choose you wont know if it is reliable until you have shot it alot. You will be reliable at about the same round count as you feel the shotgun is reliable.

C1 I have been doing alot of web surfing regarding these Baikal 153 auto loaders, some fairly amazing testomonials from a great variety of users and the gun is certainly priced right compared to all the other autos out there.FS

Fabarm Sat-8, Have put many rounds through mine and and nothing for a jam yet. When i bought it I first put 900rds (withoutcleaning) from walmart in a 2 weeks time to see if they are that good. No problems. I guess it comes down to what you prefer or how much you want to spend. but I was skeptical at first for an auto but this one works excellent.

Are they available in Canada? I also read the testomonials. Did not see any mention of a short barrel, or mag extension.

Yes , they are available in Canada. www.baikalcanada.com is the importer.

They are selling very well here in Ontario.

I bought a synthetic one about a year ago and liked it so much that I bought another one later on (with walnut stock) .

The shortest barrel available is 24". They also come in 26" and 28".

Camo verssions are available as well.

Mag extensions are not being imported.

Here is a picture of mine
