Looking for opinions on a RELIABLE range finder capable of reaching out to 1000+ yards for a reasonable cost. Never really needed a range finder of this magnitude, used a cheaper Bushnell for bow hunting but looking to reach out further with the new rifle.

Lieca 1600 B
Very dependable up to 1000, just ranged a small grain bin out to 1200.
They've gone up in price though in the last year! With the dollar being weak. Cabela's and Bass Pro have them.

Ya I was surprised they went up that much too. I'd have to check my receipt, but I belive they were around or just under 700$ when I bought. Vortex and Luepold also make comparable ones. I'm not sure if you'll find a decent one that does 1000 for much less. I'm interested now to see what others have to say.

What are you looking to spend? Keep an eye on the EE, good luck shopping.

There's a 1200 on the ee for 665 I believe one sold a couple days ago for 500 I had a 1200 yard leupold wouldn't range a power poll at 500 yards and cost 450$ moral of the story don't cheap out to much or you will regret it, I bought a 1600b for 850$ last year and love it has ranged buildings to over 1700yd and a cow in bright daylight at 1200yd a great value compared to the leupold.

I was hoping to keep it around 500$ as I'm only going to be using it a little bit but when using it I wanted it to be consistent and reliable. I'll keep an eye on the ee. I don't mind spending money but I just can't bring myself to spend a grand on a range finder lol.

The same advice I was given, Cummins makes a good point and I agree. It's a big lump to swallow though. That Bushnell looks neat. For some reason I wish the Lieca was a bit bigger. I think it would help holding it steady. Kinda sounds backwards, but I'd like to hold that Bushnell.

I'm hoping that new Sig Kilo unit starts showing up here at reasonable prices. They can be had down south for as little as $400USD and they seem to get great reviews so far...

Nikon Prostaff 7i will do 1300 yard reflective target and 1000 (997.5 officially) soft target. Quite a bit less than the (very nice) Leica. I've used both side by side in Red Deer, Alberta and if you can get a spot to try ours out to 800-900 yards you'll be stunned at the speed of reading. Available lots of places including a ton of your CGN sponsors listed above.

Rangefinder? Geeeez.... just use Kentucky elevation!

Them new fangled gadgets that kids use these days.... hmmf!

That said, I do need to get a good rangefinder that can go to a mile, but I may have to do some serious shopping first to make sure I get a capable unit.

Here in the county, we use concession roads for that... they are one mile apart lol

If I had the money I spent on Leicas, trying to avoid spending the money on Swarovskis, it would have paid for a G7. Ironically, I ended up with both the Swarovski and G7 in the end.

Lots of rangefinders are good enough, until you go and say "1000 yards reliably ". Then they start dropping like flies.
Want a solid 1000 yard LRF for 500? You and everyone else in the world.

I too have the Swarovski.

Works awesome, if you can hold it still. If you can't, it won't do much past 800y. If you can, I've ranged nearly 2000y before. Just this weekend I did 1454y while prone, but took a few tries and the right location. If going over 800y, I often throw it on a tri-pod, then it works significantly better.

Seems a little more vibration senstive then some, but that might also mean it's more accurate.

I've used a Bushnell 1500 for several years now and it works quite well, test as follows. Find an object of known distance, at least 800 yds, and range it. Use the RF to take a measurement and repeat it a few times to make sure you get a repeatable result. Now take several steps back/forward and see if the RF can verify the new range of only a few metres. This is where the cheaper models don't stand up, they rarely give an accurate or repeatable reading. I've used the Leica side by side and the measurements were almost identical though I did prefer the Leica. Keep in mind that if you purchase a unit for $200 and it doesn't perform, you've just purchased a $200 paperweight plus you now have to buy a more expensive unit for the task anyway. Best of luck with your choice.
