Reliable first time pistol?

For those that say .22 is boring and not worthy of a real pistol user.

I say you'll learn more shooting a ,22 and become a better shooter than with any other cal. out there.

The gun costs about the same, but the ammo is CHEAP and because the report and recoil are less its easier to see your mistakes and correct them.

To get the same skill level in centrefire is going to cost you $1000's in ammo. If you really are on a budget and really DO want to learn to shoot well, buy a 22.

sam007 be patient cruise gunshows check classifieds talk to guys at local gun shops and clubs you will come across something you want. i always wanted a smith model 41 could never afford one though two years ago iwas at a local gun show and found a model 46 (almost a 41 ) for 200 bucks

Not unless he has 12.6 and I doubt it if he is a relatively new shooter. Anyhow, I'd recommend a .22 pistol as a first pistol as well. If you can stretch your budget then a 9mm pistol that has a .22 conversion for it. CZ, Glock, 1911's, Beretta....I agree with not buying 'cheap'. If your gun functions well and you like/love it, you'll shoot more often. Just my .02 cents.

If You want to go with a center fire, the 9mm will give the most bang for the buck, a box of 50 Winchester or American Eagle 115 gr. for $10.
Consider the Browning Hi-Power (9mm), just about every one will agree it has the best feeling in ones hand, and is as reliable and trouble free as a pistol can be made. There are a good selection of BHP's that regularly come available on this exchange forum at very reasonable prices.
