Reliable Semi 12 Gauge

OP - who said using a pump for doubles trap is a no go ? I do it, and love it. It is sooooo nice to stand next to the guys with $17 000 shotguns (o/u, mind you) and be right there with them when it comes to birds broke. It's not nice to stand next to the guy with a semi that seems to hit you in the head with the ejected shell while shooting doubles. (you have to remove the shell catcher while shooting doubles, and some semis shoot the empties all over the place) If you want a challenge, and one that may actually make you a better shot with the gun you use in the field, use your pump for doubles trap. As always, with any gun you're going to shoot a couple hundred shots through in one day, it better fit you, or you'll feel it.

I thought of trying my pump but was advised by "the experts" at the range that I'd be wasting my time and shells to try it without an O/U or semi
Maybe I'll give it a shot next time and see. And if that fails, I'll bust the piggy bank and see what falls out lol

These experts have obviously never shot against some old guys that know how to use a pump and had their ass kicked over and over by pump guns.
If you need a semi that can also be used for hunting go with a win x3 but with time and practise nothing you cannot do on a clay field with a pump doubles included. I am fortunate to have quite an assortment of semi in my herd but when I shoot trap including doubles it is with either my wingmaster TC 12g trap or most times my wingmaster 28ga and I am always in the 20's somewhere with both and not a trap shooter. Skeet is my game which for the last 15 years is also a 28ga pump game for me

Remington 1100 guns are reliable. Trap and skeet shooters used them for decades (and still do) and put tens of thousands of rounds through them. If something went wrong, it was usually a cheap and easily replaced part, often changed right on the field.

Some autos made now are perhaps even more reliable, but for your purpose the only real difference between a Remington 1100 and a Benelli Super Vinci or whatever, will be $$$$.

I've come across an Ithaca 900 in EE for good price/condition. Any experience?

EDIT:
Spending some time on Google tells me there was 2 models out there of this gun. The 900 (like listed) and the XL900. The latter is gas operated while the 900 was recoil operated. I can only suppose that a gas-operated would be preferable for my shoulder after a full day of clay shooting than the recoil operated, yes?

I have a ithaca xl300 that belonged to my dad, and it is the best shotgun I have ever owned.Dad was never big on cleaning the internals of guns and that old girl has shot thousands upon thousands of rounds and never jammed. They used to reload light loads for skeet shooting and while other guys winchester, remingtons, and browningss would jam up the odd time the ithaca would cycle everything without a hiccup. That is the one gun in my cabinet I wouldn't get rid of for anything. As for the recoil you can shoot that thing from sun-up to sun-down and never feel a thing in your shoulder.

I have a fabarm SAT 8 it chews through light ammo and heavy ammo never had a problem.

The only downside to that firearm is waiting for the Shooting edge to get chokes in they sell out quick.

Hey DiMP, those " experts" don't know what they are talking about, I've seen guys shoot 50/50 at doubles with pumps. The first time I tried doubles I shot 33/50 with my Winchester sxp. Out of 15 guys I was the only one pumping it. I regularly line up with guys shooting custome made $25000 kreighoff's. Like yourself I'm looking at getting a semi just to have one on hand without having to remortgage the house to get one lol. Buy the one so if you drop it in the mud you dont cry and you can dip it in the river to clean it then shoot it with no problems.

I've used an 870 for trap for years and it's super reliable and perfect for meat shoots. I also used an A-5 Browning auto which was 100% reliable, but just didn't take to using a Holo-Sight as well. (Kept shaking the mount loose.)

For an auto though, it's hard to beat an A-5.:)

The wife has an Auto-5 but she inherited it from her grandfather when he passed away so it's more of a treasure piece for her than a "let me take it to the range" gun... But because of that she's going to give me an allowance to buy something (used) :)
