I'm down to one handgun and its in 45... too expensive to shoot, and to top it off its picky about which ammo it likes so I can't even use bulk purchased reloads from the usual places in Canada. So Im stuck blowing like $80 worth of ammo every time I go out, and that's no good.

I was thinking about getting something in 9mm, but figured maybe a good .22 would do the trick as well. I'd LIKE to get something like the Sig Mosquito, Walther P22, or basically any other .22 that looks, feels, and shoots like any of the "big" mainstream guns. I haven't heard the greatest things about some of these guns though... namely them being picky on ammo, and having the occasional FTF/FTEs.

I want something that can cycle quickly and eat whatever I feed it. Any recommendations? Are the p22 or Mosquito worth looking at?

Oh the other reason I want another pistol in smaller caliber is because I recently went shooting outdoors with multiple targets, and would love to have something with less recoil and a better ability to shoot faster than my commander in .45 so a nice bulky 9mm was at the top of my list. Im just not sure I wanna spend another grand on a nice gun (I'd prefer a P226 or a CZSP01).

What about a CZ 9mm with the .22 Kadet conversion kit, or even quality .22 top end for your 1911, like a Kimber.

I have heard the same things about reliability with the Mosquito and P22 but have not witnessed it first hand.

Other than styling the Ruger MK 1,2 or 3 as well the Browning Buckmark seem to goble anything you feed them.

If I bought a CZ in 9mm I wouldn't bother with a .22 conversion...

The main reason Im entertaining the idea of getting a .22 is the lower prices of the guns themselves. Like I said, ideally I'd just get a Sig P226 or a CZ75 SP01 and that would be the end of it... but in either scenario Im blowing another $1000.

As far as the 1911 idea goes, I don't really want to tinker with my 1911 or be forced to convert over while at the range. I'd rather have 2 whole guns.

I am a big fan of the P22, just get one with an after 2005 manufacture date, and you should be fine.
I also shoot a ruger 22/45, which, although the grip is a bit smaller than a 1911, it's similiar, and it cost $315 barely used......
I hated my S&W 22a until i sent it for repair twice for a total of 9mos downtime, and the only other 22 i have owned is an old .22 revolver, it's pretty cool and accurate too!!
Good luck!!

I would suggest a Ruger 22. The Mark 111 is around $ 375.00 new and my experience with Ruger 22 self loaders is that they are not ammo sensitive and are accurate & very good value.

I've fired the Ruger 22s and while they performed admirably, I just don't like the way it felt and I especially dislike the overall design of the firearm. Im sure they're great firearms, but its just not for me. Im basically looking for a replica of a more mainstream tactical/le gun... SIG, CZ, 1911, USP, that kinda stuff.

Thanks

Is your p22 manufactured after '05? How is it to shoot? Reliable? Any feeding/ejection issues? Issues with slide not locking back on last shot? Will it fire and cycle as fast as you pull the trigger?

I bought a S&W 22A recently. It's been really good.

It's probably not what you are looking for but it is a good, cheap, accurate, 22 pistol.

It has a better stock trigger than the Ruger, it's much easier to take down, and it's accurate.

The only thing I can pan on my gun is that the grip screws were loose right out of the box. Other than that it has worked flawlessy for me with all sorts of ammo. Did I mention it's accurate?

Mine set me back $300.00 all in but I got a deal. Reguler price would have taxes on top of that.

dont know you budget but how about the kimber 22 target? full size 1911 that shoots 22lr

thats why i said didnt know your budget. altho in all honesty if i could afford it id buy one, expensive yes but the quality is there and apparantly they are pretty accurate

anyways my vote is the 22/45 but you should just go to the local gun store and buy w/e fits your hand best since i havent heard anyone yelling stay away from certain guns and comfort is the next most important thing right?

Darko, my P22 was an '05, i just sold it to try a 22/45, but it's next to get back on my list, i miss it!! The slide didn't lock back every time, but i think they fixed that on the even more recent ones. I had ZERO feeding ejection issues, and i used Every type of ammo i could pick up. I did have ammo spitting at my face, so i stretched the extractor spring a bit.
I will warn you that the grip was a little small for my hand, my only complaint.
Rgds, Rob
