Reliable Shotgun Ammo

This spring here, The dog follower its attached to it, How does yours look? My gun beats the crap out of them, Benelli M2 is a direct replacement. Also had issues until I replaced the spring. The two other spots I have the pen pointed at I keep a little grease on, Without it my gun will start have issues. Once there's some on there it will run hundreds of rounds at a time zero issues.
Also posed the marks where challenger shells would bind against the receiver walls

I will try this. At this point I would give anything a whirl.

You mention the Benelli M2 spring is a direct replacement, do you know if the M4 is a direct swap too? I ask as I have an M4 and could borrow it. I am not home right now to check but I stripped the M4 the other night and had that specific spring out and it looked pretty similar.

that I'm not sure about, I don't have any experience with the m4 other than it being on the wish list

The M4 is a great gun (one of the first I owned), very compact and easily manoeuvred but the Versamax is a better fit for me and feels more natural.

When it comes to competition the VM wins, not even close. The larger gate and no pistol grip give it a big edge when it comes to reloading on the clock.

The only two cartridges that failed to fire ever for me were Challengers ..... both times solid primer strike but no boom ....
And the below image shows a brand new Challenger round that would not even chamber because of the bulge ....

How does something like that even pass QC?
I've never tried Challenger ammo.. after this thread I probably never will.

Update.

I shot ~200 rounds of 7/8oz Rio ammo and some Score slugs in the match and had maybe one of two issues. All in all reliability was good.

Got some breathing room now to do some more testing, I got to thinking that if the pistons (mine are very clean / free so no issues there) were worn to the point that they had gas blowby it would reduce the energy of the bolt cycling so this is my next avenue to try but getting parts is proving to be a challenge.

The VM is still a great fit for competition however, there are other guns that looked like solid bets but that extra round from the 3.5" chamber gives you more options. I am itching to buy another gun but there is nothing that ticks all the boxes as well as the VM (barrel length / 3.5" chamber etc etc)

You can get Stoger Canada to bring in a 3.5”A400 with a 26” barrel, It’s not quite as short as a versamax tactical thou

I have looked at the A400 a few times and if I were going this direction I would get the 26" you mention (thanks for the info). With the same receiver as the Pro Comp it could / would get the full Tac Ord treatment (I really like their work)

It is still 5" longer than my VM however which makes me leery.
