Looking for some reloading date for 40 cal 180 gr berry bullets. I will be using 231 winchester powder.

I tried the Hogdon site, but the only data available is for 180 GR. HDY XTP

Here is my .40cal recipe that I am berry happy with. The highest I have tried 5.3gr of Win231 with success. At 5.0gr and a light taper crimp, it still feels like a very light round.

Win231 - 5.0gr
CCI small primer
180gr Berry plated or 180gr Speer GDHP
OAL 1.125"

What is the starting grain weight and max gr weight?

I started at 4.5gr and finished at 5.3gr. My lee disc powder drops averages 5.0gr with a low of 4.9 to a high of 5.2.

One thing to note is the height of a 180gr berry bullet is quite a bit smaller compared to my Speer HP. I'll take some measurements tonight and post my results.

My results are as follows

Berry 180gr - 0.586"
Speer 180gr GDHP - 0.656"

The Berry 180gr is so much smaller then the Speer GDHP and Hornady XTP. I feel that running a max load of 5.0gr Win 231 is safe.

I've been searching all day for a good recipe for 231 using 180 gr berry bullets.

This is what I've found so far is:

4.4grs OAL of 1.125
4grs to 5.6gr max
4.7grs OAL 1.125
