reload question

i think i have crimped my reload for 270 win a little tight. What may happen are these no good now? I hope someone can provide me with some advice thanks for the help

1) Shoot them, just as you would any other load.

2) No need, whatsoever, to crimp your 270. Just normally seat the bullet, without crimping it.


Edited to say that being OK to shoot, refers to the harder crimping.
It is assumed the cartridges are loaded in other respects, to be safe to shoot.

Furdale is the new suburb of Okla. (Pop.6) and just up the road from Hazel Dell.
Grasshopper Gully is in S.W Manitoba next to Flooded Fish Flats.

So long as your laod is otherwise OK, crimping won't hurt, unless the neck is buckled so much the round won't chamber.

The 270 has such a long neck that there is lots and lots of grip on that bullet, so crimping is not required.

I am hard pressed to think of any cartridge that needs crimping, except maybe heavy bullets in a hot load in a revolver.

Crimping will increase your pressure and velocity (fps) ~ slightly, but as H4831 said, should be good to go!

If you have bent the case so much that it won't chamber you can try running the round into a size die (with the rod removed, of course) for a .30-'06, or better yet a .280 Rem (7mm Remington Express).
If you try to post-size it in your .270 die, you'll crush the shoulder. (yup, I've tried it)

Someone touched on it, if you crimp too much, it's possible to form a small ring just next to the crimped end, and it will cause round to not chamber, otherwise let 'er rip.
