Reloaded slug question

Hey everyone,

I'm reloading some DGS-16 in Fiocchi hulls (as per the BPI 16 Gauge Manual) and roll crimping. I just finished my first one and I realized that the slug seems to move around in the hull. Is this normal or not? I can't seem to get the roll crimper to get the depth any deeper. If I hold the hull right side up (brass down) the slug doesn't protrude from the crimp and if I flip it over, it does slightly, maybe the 3mm?

Sounds like you need a slightly thicker wad under your slug.

The DGS-16 comes with a built-in wad like this

Does the manual call for a roll crimp or a star crimp? If the latter, it would be tight because the star crimp takes up more room. Just an idea maybe a 1/8" card wad over your powder would help. Just guessing.

It calls for a roll.

I do have some O/S cards. So you'd recommend a O/S card over the powder and under the wad?

Yes that is where I would place the wad. Sound like a dimension difference from original loads, either shorter wad on the slug, or change in internal dimensions. You did weigh your powder charge, not just volume?

Yes, I weighed the charge. I'll try that tomorrow and post my results. Thanks!

Is that the same slug profile as found in Challenger slugs?

Edit: it is, I didn't know they were one piece. Neat.
