Reloader 17 Pros/Cons

I also tried RL17 in my new Rem 700 LSS rifles in 280 Rem & 30-06 I did not get any velocity gains or accuracy gains so will not be using it again in these cartridges.

It is not an beat all end all powder but when you find a case design that it works with it is awesome.

I tried ordering RL17 about a month ago and guy told me his supplier said it was discontinued. Anyone know if this is true because anywhere I tried to get it it was out of stock.

Working great so far in my first few tests through a 6 BR.

What weight bullets did you try it with in the .280 and .30-06?

I think it would be good with 175gr and 200-220gr, respectively.

140's in the 280 Rem and 150/180's in the 30-06.

I'm not saying it didn't work I'm saying that it didn't give me any gain over IMR4350 so I will continue to us that powder and save the RL17 for my 375RUM.

CC - early tests with RL17 in .308Win showed no improvement with 155gr bullets, but there were significant improvements with +180gr and up. I would suspect, although I have zero experience with RL17, that the heavier bullets (uses up more case capacity) in the -06 based cases would be the ones that may see a benefit.

That's for sure! Way over 2700 fps with 180s, and almost 2600 with 200s in my two 308 rifles. :)

Both have 22" barrels, a Stevens 200 and a Husqvarna 5000.

Ok I'll give it another try when I get my 30-06 back from Guntech...

I'm having Dennis shorten the 24" barrel of my new Rem 700 LSS to 20" I plan to load/shoot 180gr Scirroco's in it when I get it back.

High velocity really isn't the goal with this rifle/bullet combo though, this is going to be a more of a do everything hunting combo if I need more velocity I'll take my Rem 700 LSS in 300RUM.

2700fps with a 180gr would be perfect but I'm thinking that you can get that with IMR4350...
