Been reloading for my 6.5 55, for awhile now, mostly 120gr and iMR4350, or a little with H4831. I picked up a box of 140 gr Nosler A.bonds, and got some what good results with the same powders. Was at my local gun shop today seen, Reloader 22 heard a lot about it but never used it before so I picked a pound up to try. What can you guys tell me about it ?

Sorry, Remington 700 Classic, with a match Shelin heavy barrel. I shoot 100-500 yards with this gun, I use it for target and hunting.

The Lyman manual lists 42.3 gr as a start and 47 as a max load. I can't remember offhand what I used as a load (44 gr I think) but I liked it better than the other two powders listed with 140 gr. in my M96.

I'm sorry but if you are really looking for some out of book loads, you will have to at least mention the type of firearm you have. We aren't mind readers and we certainly don't know your circumstances. I wouldn't think of putting a load out there without that information.

There are many different rifles chambered in 6.5x55. The most common on this site are the M38 and M96 Swede rifles. Some 98 Mausers are also chambered for this fine round and a lot of Remington, Winchester, Tikka and several other European firearms makers make them up as well. The later commercial rifles are supposedly much stronger than the milsurp actions, which might also include Norwegian Krags.

I do 140gr Hornday SP's and 46gr of RE22 for one of the most accurate rifle loads I have ever used (in a Tikka T3). These loads are well within the norms of manuals I have used. 45gr of RE22 also gave very good results.

I would start with a Max load of RL22 and work up until you have some definite pressure signs. Not to long ago, there was another thread posted about getting more velocity out of the 6.5x55 with 140 grain bullets. In a strong modern rifle, such as yours, 47 grains was suggested as a starting point by a knowledgeable member.

You might be more interested in going to a slower powder yet, like IMR 7828, H1000 or Re 25.

Re22, will give you similar velocities as H4831.

The photo tells all.............RL22, Win LRP, COAL 3.23 Lapua brass. Approach this load with caution, I was 2 grns higher but accuracy fell off, still safe in my rifle with my brass and COAL.

That's good shooting. cb. thanx for posting that again. I was looking for it and couldn't find it.

Are you using magnum primers with that load??? What twist rate is your barrel.

6.5s are very sensitive to fast twist rates.

My 1885 lowwall in 6.5 x 55 just loves re 22 and 140 gr accubonds,it has a 24" barrel.At 47 gr,reloader 22 fps was only 2570 average,and 48 grs was 2649 average of 10 rounds but it shot just great,3/4 to 1 inch groups when I did my part at 100 yards with a 2.5 x 8 leupold.6 shots last fall put down 3 moose and 2 deer,no recovered bullets,only dead animals.
happy hunting and shooting.
