I got a Lee Loadall II for my birthday, have never reloaded shot shells. Reading the Lyman reloading shotshell handbook, and checking the heavy loads section. Want to load 1 3/8 and 1 1/2 oz loads, of #2 and BB shot, using Remington Premier STS cases. Leaning toward Longshot Powder. Where is the best supplier/price for components? Any advice on components, procedures, scales, etc very much appreciated. Thank you

sadly you will likely pay more reloading these than buying pre made shells, but the above suppliers should have what you need

You can save quite a bit if you cast your own shot. That goes for regular shot, buckshot, and slugs. With slugs you'll have to tinker around to get similar accuracy to factory ammo though. As it stands I can only match the cheapest factory slugs in terms of accuracy. If you aren't casting you wont be saving much and somewhat likely to be paying more than buying factory ammo.

Yes but you cannot compare to the cheap low quality Walmart shells. You will find that you get better results with you reloads than the cheap shells as long as you buy good components .

I'm not. I'm comparing them to flats of regular Federal, Winchester, and Remington ammo from reputable gun stores. You can handload more premium loads, sure, but you aren't saving very much compared to buying, say, Win AA's by the flat. The small amount you save is usually not worth the time, equipment, and effort.

It is worth reloading some shotshells. Steel, other non-toxic, 410 and 28 gauge, buckshot, slugs, etc. but there is no savings in target load compared to regular ammo by the flat and very little savings compared to premium target load. If you're loading international/Olympic regulation shells for practice (since you can't use reloads in competition) you can save quite a bit but not many people shoot under international rules and speeds.
