I want to get into reloading for my 12 gauge since I go through 400-500 rounds a month or month and a half. What's a good site or brand for reloading?

Right now unless you make your own lead shot you are not going to save any money reloading 12ga vs buying flats of rem gun clubs etc.
Take some time and do the math first to see if you really want to go down that route. Yes you will get a top quality shell if you reload but not save any cash.
As far a prices and delivery of powder, components and loaders, both hummanson or higginson in Ontario are your best places for shipping to NS.Good Luck

Thanks Iv been getting 2x 250 round flats at better buy in Dartmouth for 145. Thought it might be cheaper to load my own thanks for the info!

Last I checked I was around 6.50 a box for 1 1/8 oz so 130. Shipping is the killer for us getting components like lead and powder down to NS. So at 145 by the time you factor in the reloading gear you have to buy and your time not a big saving. 28ga and 410 are a different story they are well worth it.

It definitely isn't cheaper, here's the math.

Shotgun reloading is fun though. Maybe I am just geeky that way. It is very satisfying once you get onto a load that you feel is performing better than what you can buy. I invested less than $150 in equipment then bought some components locally to try it out. I didn't save money at all (actually cost more after a few newbie mistakes), but did manage to get some nice 1 oz trap loads that have nice punch to them with relatively low recoil. My plan now is to try to buy components 'smart' as available. Lead is the most expensive component, so the more you can do to load light and strategize on shipping the better you will do. Talk with a local gun club/range. If they are purchasing skids of clays from Hummason (White Flyer Distributor) you might be able to have a quantity of lead shot added to the order. The shot wouldn't introduce the complication of hazmat fees associated with powder and primers. Have fun!

Thanks. Been a while since in did it out like that but last time it was just about 6.50 / box for me on 12ga. Where do you guys get the wads for 9.00/500 over $12.00 here, 10 cents for AA hulls ( guessing you are saying 6 reloads at a penny each) and about 45-56 for lead. Powder and primers are still in line with yours.I am probally well over 6.50 now.

I can't remember if those wads were from Hummason or from Lawry, that chart was made about a year ago so the pricing is a year old.
There are definitely savings if you load slugs or buckshot. I did a chart for them too but I can't seem to find it, it was about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of store bought.

Cant remember what it costs me per box. I get my lead from someone who makes shot for $1/lb and pick up most of my hulls at the skeet fields. Powder,Wads, and Primers are ordered in bulk through Gun Club considerably less than buying it individually.
Shop around you'll find them cheaper than Betterbuy, not sure if you ever get to Valley, but Lequiles usually has flat/case for cheaper.

Thanks I'll have to dig a little deeper. 20 gauge I can buy for 60 plus tax for 250 rounds at better buy. I know they are the best prices here. In the Bally they want 90$ for the same brick.

the only thing i load with shot is my hunting loads not use making trap loads a flat of walmart cheap winchester stuff is what i use (i dont shoot trap/skeet much anymore)

i load slugs and buck and thats where you save with 12ga

I don't like the Winchester shells we have had more misfires than federal or Remington shells.

Their cheddite are 35/1000
Lead is 38/bag

You guys are so lucky to have them at your back door. I remember a few years we actually drove up and took back like 100 bags of lead, etc and it was still worth it over buying elseware. Everytime my brother comes home from brockville I make sure he has some lead in the car.

Hummason lead is $50/mag in Ottawa. Will have to grab some when I am visiting family in Mississauga over the holidays.

Yeah, shipping of lead is the killer. I have crews working in Hamilton every week so whenever I need something I just have them grab it for me, I'm quite lucky in that sense!
I even offered to pick up a pick-up truck load of lead for a local shop here in exchange for a few free bags... They declined... ah well
