Reloading 150 gr Hornady interlocks for 1950 LB no4 mk1

Greetings all,

I will be shooting this rifle with proven handloads that I've developed. My question is about using the rear ladder sight. With the lighter bullet, it should strike higher 6" at 100 yds. with a 6 o'clock hold using the battle sight. How should I set the rear ladder sights from 100 to 400 yds? Or should I hold over? your input is appreciated

All bets are off with a 75 year old rifle. See how it shoots at 100 y. BTW - The book minimum load will give the same MV as the original 174 gr load, and approximately the same trajectory for modest ditances.

With Lee Enfield’s the sights are set for that rifle. Fronts are marked for height. So a different one will change where the rifle hits. I have a cast bullet load I shoot in multiple LE’s and the rear is set somewhere between 450 and 500 depending on what height the front sight is. No way I could guess where your bullets are hitting once distance increases past 100. Once past 200 I would expect your load to be shoot flatter than the original military load so likely 300 and 400 on your rear sight should hit above point of aim. Assuming a max load with that bullet. You’re actually going to have to shoot and see what happens. I have shot out to 300m with Hornady 150 gr and if I remember correctly my rear sight was under the 3 mark.
I’d set the rear for what distance you are shooting , shot and adjust, then write it down so next time you will know where to set the sight.

This. The only way to know for sure is to shoot at the desired ranges and make a dope chart so you know your drop at those ranges.

The gun was designed for 174 grn bullets. The rear ladder works out excellent past 500 yards with 174grn and correct original speeds.
150 grns are great for deer not replicating original speeds. Your rear ramp will be off.

Thank you all. I will use your experiences and advice to find what settings on the rear sight are best. I have used the Battle Sight so far and have had good results.
