A few weeks ago I purchased a CZ 527 Varmint in 17 HH. I have only been out to the range twice with it to date. It is either -40 or a storm like today. So I have not been able to shoot it much.

First time out was with Hornady factory ammo. My last 3 groups (5 shot) were: .608, .540 and .361 so I think it will be a shooter. The price of ammo is like gold so I will be reloading for it.

I loaded 9.7, 9.8, 9.9 and 10.0 of LilGun. 10.0 shot best (.531), but I found all of these loads to bulge the brass near the base. For the price of brass I do not want to wreck my brass after a few loads. Of course I forgot my Chronograph so do not know what I was getting for velocities. I have now backed these off and have loads of 9.4, 9.5 and 9.6 ready to go if the weather ever cooperates.

I am only interested in shooting 20 gr bullets as I have two 17 Fireball's that fill the 25 gr niche.

I have not been able to find any A1680 which is spposed to shoot great in the 17 cal Hornet. I do have A2230,H322, H335 and BLC2 on hand if anyone has any loads for these powders they would care to share (for 20 gr bullets). I have scoured the interent but with not much luck. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

I am stocking up on Hornady ammo to use for brass. I have tried to resize some 22 Hornet brass I have on hand using my Redding 2 piece dies with not much luck as the cases crush at the neck. Has anyone had any luck doing this? I have read that Bullbarry barrels makes a die to take the 22 Hornet case down to twenty and then you finish them in a 17 die. I am not in a panic as I will continue to use 17 Hornet brass, but if it is anything like my 17 Fireball, brass is now very hard to come by.

I would appreciate any input/advice from anyone wanting to share. Thanks.

I have a 17 Ack,Hornet. I first run 22 R P 22 Hornet brass into the Redding bullet seating die with seating stem removed. Then into Redding FL sizing die.Trim to lenght and fire form.My best load with 20 gr.bullets is WSR primers 10.4 gr LilGun 20 gr.V max bullets for ave. vel.3773 fps.....hessels

hessels what rifle are you shooting that in? No problem with your brass bulging? Any idea how many reloads you are getting out of your brass? Thanks.

I have a rebarreled Rem.Hepburn single shot.Brass does bulge a bit but I resize just enough to close the action. I usualy get 4 to 8 reloads per case then most often the necks split.....hessels

Bulging brass, how are your primer pockets? are you flattening primers. Great web site down south called www. saubier all about small calibers many more answers there on 17 hornet than here. FS

Thanks FS I will look there as well. No problems with primer pockets or primers flattening. Just a bulge on the brass. But only loaded once so far.

Today I resized some 22 Hornet brass down to 17 using the information provided above. Thanks hessels. More just out of interest at this time. Now it is only -50C windchill outside. I may wait till it warms up a tad.
