Just started reloading. Just looking for any info or experience with reloading the 160 gr partitions in my .270. I'm shooting a pre 64 model 70. I have yet to work up and test any loads. I'm using imr4350 powder. Starting with 48 gr and working up. Book says max is 51gr providing 2755fps. Would 6 shots per load be enough to determine potential accuracy?

Actually loaded this bullet for my cousin who used his 270 for moose only.
We used 52.0 grains of IMR 4350, and it always worked just great.

You are doing it correctly by starting at 48 grains and working up.
Worked up to this charge in his pushfeed M70 Winchester.

As the 160 is a semi-spitzer bullet, it does shed velocity a bit quicker than the 150 does.
However, it tends to shoot well, and will often exit a moose on a broadside shot.

If I was to start over, I think I would try H4831sc instead of the 4350.

Thanks for the info. Will repost when I have a chance to fire a few.

Still need to buy a chamfer tool to clean up the neck edges.

One thing I've noticed. I have a lee loader as well as a press. When I use a lee case length trimmer on cases that come out of the lee loader I don't seem to trim off near as much as I do when I use the press. I assume there is a difference with how the cases are resized. Both ways seem to work though.

Once I work up a good load with the press I am going to try and duplicate it with the lee loader just to see if there is a difference. Should be a interesting practical exercise.

Junorr500; The reason for the greater trim when you use the press is primarily the expander button in your FL die.

As you draw the case out over the expander, it stretches the case slightly, making it longer.

Good lube inside the case neck before sizing minimizes this issue. [I use powdered graphite]

With your Lee Loader, you are only sizing the neck, and no expander button, so cases will grow at a slower rate.

X2 to what Eagleye stated in his post......I consider this bullet to be a short range slugger (under 200 yards).....dependable as taxes....But in all fairness, I prefer the 150 grain spitzer Partition bullet in the .270....a bit more velocity and better down range capabilities....

If I was to hunt black bear over bait using a .270 Win, I would definitely go with the 160 Partition bullet....
