Just got into reloading, so far have loaded up some 338WM with good success. I have a 30-30 coming my way and want to load for it. Rather then guess a good recipe, do you guys have any good luck with certain powder and bullets? Will be used for hunting g in the fall and just target shooting right now.

I use a max load of LVR (36.3 grains) cci200 primer, win cases and hornady 170 grain interlocks.
Very accurate and runs 2200 fps in my 20" win 94 (chronied).
I tried winchester primers but I didn't get near the speed or accuracy.

I always find this question funny. Most publications only publish the best performing results from their testing. Lyman manual actually puts the most accurate load in bold print.
Every gun will perform differently, but you manual load data is still one of the best places to start.
Me personally, bought a crap load of 3031 when it was cheap. I dropped 24 behind my 150 cast and never looked back.

I have loaded a lot of 30-30 with BL-C2 (ball C2) mostly 150 grain winchester RN over 35.5 grains. Tried up to 36 but in my rifle the 35.5 was best. I picked up a bottle of the LVR so when I start running out of ammo, I will be loading 170's with that. Maybe it will be better.

I played around with the 30-30. Tried some hornady FTX, good accuracy results. In the testing, the reason for the rifle being buried in the safe was confirmed. Just bored with so many other choices available.
IMO other than dialing in for accuracy, there is little to be gained by loading for the 30-30 that can not be obtained with factory ammo. Just like 12 or 20 gauge target ammo, there would also be very little gained in cost saving either.

The gun powder feller will be along with the old magic formula standby.
IMR 3031 and the formula is in the numbers.

I am hoping to get about 10 out of mine. after initial resizing I will use my neck sizing die for two reloads and full again for every third.
I have plans and bits and pieces for building an annealing setup.

I used it, then got away from the 30-30, still remembered the numbers, but I knew I must have at one time saw it in print, but couldn't find it. The modern loading manuals are al showing considerably less of a load with 3031.
Then, I was going through P.O.Ackley's Volume 1, and on page 410, there it was.
Note that Ackley got a bit under the 2200 fps that is the normal velocity for the 30-30.

You need a primer still
The price of a cast bullet is not accurate unless you cast your own. Last cast I bought was around 20 cents each.
With a 150gr bullet with 3031 powder and a Winchester primer I can load 3030 at 7.50 a box with range brass. Cheap shooting that's for sure

I found with LVR, the closer you get to max the tighter the groups. In my rifle anyway.
165 plain based cast over 8gr unique makes for great plinking.
