Reloading 30-30

Tomorrow I'm going to see someone who has a scoped Stevens/Savage 340 in 30-30 for sale. I was wondering if anyone here has any good loads to recommend , I don't want hunting loads ,just paper punching loads , jacketed and lead...mostly lead.150-160gr
Any help will be appreciated

Lucky you!
That little carbine is usually a tackdriver!
And because it makes use of a box magazine, it is a good candidate for 30-30 rounds topped with spitzers.
I would be very interested in seeing what it can do with 150gr. A-Max bullets...

I use 14 gr of h110 behind lee 309 - 150F, CBE 309162, Lyman 31141, 311365 or 311284 all with good results.

Also, 25gr WC845 with CBE 309162 or Lyman 31141, if it's to double as a hunting load.

My rifle is more accurate with 20:1 lead/tin than with wheelweight + 2% tin.

I've had good luck with 35.0 grains of IMR 4350 and the speer 150 rn

Surplus WC735/844 works well in the 30-30, and is cheap. I like the Hornady 100gr SJ's - cheap, fast, and work well on gophers

Interesting... neck down the 30-30 and you've got a .225, which is right up there with the 22-250. I can't imagine that sabot's are great for accuracy though. With 100gr SJ's the trajectory is plenty flat enough for my skill level with open sights.

Well I tried the 30-30 this morning and it's now in my gun safe , by the way it's a stevens 325. The stock is pretty plain but I'll fix that shortly but I really like the bolt handle ,somewhat like a Styer

Looks cool, butter knife bolt handle , sweet. That stock can be made to look cool , with a bit of carving, and stippleing, followed by a dark stain.

IMR 3031 and some 150 gr. Interlocks would be a good place to start

i prefer win 748 and hornady 150 or 170 flat nose. goves great acuracy in a marlin 336

My wife has the same rifle scoped also, and she did the stock up to look laminated. It is a very nice looking rifle, and is also accurate. we use bulk Remington 125g psp's and 37 1/2g of H335 for a velosity of 2630fps. I have pushed them faster, but like this load best. I have also used Hornady 110g psp, and IMR4198 for a velosity of 2800 fps. We also use bulk 150g Winchester pointed power points for Deer hunting, but the recoil is more than I like for target shooting. Have fun.
