Hi,

Want to start reload for 300 Win Mag on Dillon 550B. What is the best setup, and techniques?
Any experiences, loading recipes, etc..?
Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks.

In my opinion, case lube and progressives don't belong in the same sentence. Progressives with extruded powder are a recipe for inconsistency. The rig is better suited to loading handguns or high-volume shooting ammo rather than either hunting ammo or precision ammo. I can't imagine why you would want to load 300WM in sufficient volume to justify doing it on a progressive.

Now, if it's your only press then we can work around that. I would size and then remove the case and wipe the lube off it, then proceed through the loading stations. Again, I can't imagine extruded powder like H4831 (even SSC) metering worth a damn through the progressive but I'll be the first to admit that I've never tried it. I trickle all my loads, even in cases that use well over 100 grains of powder, to the tenth of a grain but I'm anal about stuff like that. It would mess with my chi to just throw charges of extruded powder and call it good.

i machined an extention for my funnel thats fits in my hornady powder die.... i weigh out my extruded powders on the scale and i dump it down my funnel ... this is how i also run my load development and my "match" ammo..

Dillon 550 series to load that particular round... reason why?

Ok so what it is with me is that the progressive seems more suited to mass production of bulk ammo, that's of decent quality! mind you, but seriously BULK ammo. Such as pistol, or 5.56 etc. why the single action shooters love this press setup, for example...

So I'm wondering if you shoot a heckuva lot of 300 Win Magnum...? Also, the round deserves precision powder measurement, not quite perfect on the Dillon system... tell me that it'll turn out powder charges consistent to the .2 of a grain, someone please
