reloading 300 WSM

so im new to the reloading game and i just picked up my first press and i was spending the evening getting a couple of things lines up and i noticed something, 300 WSM is an expensive round to load!

first i went to find some dies.
check all over and finally found a place that had them and they where about twice the price of most of the other dies.
i was getting worried cause no one seemed to stock that die.

so wrote down where i found it and went on looking for brass.
wow!
so far ive found one place that carries brass for the 300 WSM and its $4 PER BRASS!
and the only company i can find is Nosler, no starline or anyone else.

am i missing something?

is the 300 WSM a really strange load?

my only guess is that because its a short magnum its an odd ball, that and its new (created in 2000).

so does this sound right to you guys who have been doing this for years?
are these prices and availability what i can expect for this round or am i maybe looking in the wrong places?

and the bullets themselves, from what i can gather from what im seeing i use 30 cal bullets????
so is that a generic thing?
300 WSM and .308 use the same bullets?

of course the first round i decide to reload has to be a hard one, cant be nice and easy, haha!

300wsm is a .308 bullet...same as .308, 30.06 etc.
Dies from what I remember are the same price as any other die.
Brass is more expensive than more popular rounds, about $1 a piece for standard federal or winchester. If your going for nosler brass...could get pricey.
I only seem to get 4 or 5 loadings from my 300wsm brass but I just started anealing so it should help.

Paid the same price as other chambering for my RCBS .300WSM dies. Same for brass. Yes it uses regular .308 bullets. Nothing oddball about the .300WSM, it's a very popular cartridge and the most popular of the WSM. "Regular" brass like Winchester and Remington will be way cheaper than the Nosler brass you found. Once you find the proper dies and components, it's no more expensive to reload than any other cartridge. Good luck.

The WSM's haven't been a huge success anywhere. None of 'em do anything other cartridges don't do. However, anybody who demands $4 each is a pirate.
Mind you, on Midway's site(Stateside, yes, but a good place to find out what's available.), Nosler, Remington and Winchester brass are ALL on 'Out of Stock. No Back order'. Norma is sporadic. Means there ain't any, Stateside, and they get served first. Try the gun shows, if there are any near you.
