reloading 308 cal for moose hunt

I use 180gr Hornady SST's for my hunting load pushed by H4895. Shoots very well out to 600m in *my* rifle. The SST' have taken many moose and bears over the years. I (used to ) use 150 gr SST's for Caribou.
I prefer H4895 for my hunting loads as I may be hunting in +25 to -45C temps.

My old buddies blr love 165 btsp hornady. Over the 25 years I hunted with him he never lost a moose probably more than a dozen. A couple of them in the 300-yard range and one was probably 400. My kid's gun Ruger compact likes 150 gr, his moose was one shot one step and dead. A good shot is all you need for moose don't overthink the ballistics, foot-pounds of energy are nice but most of the times doesn't mean anyting. Shoot what shoots best in your gun.

I load both 165 gr and 180 gr nosler partitions with IMR 4064 in a Rem 600 mohawk with an 18.5" barrel . 44 gr for the 165 and 42 gr for the 180 . While neither of these loads are screaming fast from that 18.5" barrel they both print sub moa at 100 yd . As I have always been told speed kills but accuracy kills more .

My Rem M600 308 Win 150 gr load is 46 grs IMR 4064 & a CCI200 Sparker - But i LIKE 45 grs of H4895 as its a Bit faster FPS with the same accuracy . RJ
