Hey guys,

I was sick of spending too much money on factory 45 ACP so I bought a Dillon Square Deal B. Worked out great for me but I replaced it with a 650. Now I'm tempted to reload 308 because $22 for a box of 20 rounds is getting ridiculous. So I already have a good press to produce large quantity of 45 but I don't plan to shoot 308 that much. What would be the best solution for me? Buy a conversion kit with a dillon case trimmer of buy a whole separate non progressive setup for 308 only?

Thanks for your input

since the 45 and the 308 share the SAME SHELLPLATE- and for that matter the 06, 8mm, and a bunch of others, all you SHOULD need is a new toolhead with dies and a powder measure capable of throwing 308 charges- anyones dies will do - they don't necessarily have to be dillon- you couild always phone or go on dillons site and ask as well

that's what i said- think of the 45 as a really short 308/06 /8mm/ and i bunch or others i can't remember all sharing the same head- we make 45 acp overstrength( like 451 detonics, 460 roland, etc) all the time from 308 win cases as well as 06- you should READ YOUR MANUAL AGAIN- also take a look at any shellholder chart- rcbs, lee, dillon, you name it- if the numbers are the same for a given caliber they share the SAME SHELLHOLDER/PLATE- for instance if you look at rcbs, you will see the 308 and the 06 have the same number- it's something like a 2 0r 3 - if you then carry over to the PISTOL side of things you will find the same number- AGAIN , IT'S A 2 OR 3 depending on whether you're looking at the lee or rcbs chart- that means the shell holders are INTERCHANGEABLE- you only have to change the dies
same deal for 45colt, and 44 spcl/mag that;s why there's only 11 or so standard shell holders

Oh, the 45acp and 308 rem share the same plate and same primer?

however, you're JUMPING TO THE WRONG CONCLUSION AS FAR AS THE PRIMERS ARE CONCERNED- the 308 takes LARGE RIFLE primers- and it's 308 WINCHESTER, NOT REMINGTON, ALSO ABBREVIATED 308 WIN, 7.62X51, or 308 - the 223 is remington-
the 45 acp AUTOMATIC COLT PISTOL- typically takes LARGE PISTOL primers- they're softer but fit in the same sized cup- if you use large rifle primers in the pistol they may NOT FIRE- same deal going the other way- there are some small sized primer brass out there ( winchester nt) just to confuse things even more-

I'm sorry, I meant 308 WIN and what I mean with the same primer is if 308 WIN and 45 ACP shares the same priming plateform.

Thanks for your input.
