Well my brass has finally arrived. My molds have finally arrived ,now I'm ready to try this but first a little advice please. I'm thinking balls would be better, but I do have a bullet mold as well. So I guess the question is bullets or balls and what to use for lube. It would be a shame to use commercial lube in a 135 year old gun so I guess I'm looking for some of your best old lube recipes too. Thanks fellas.

Went shooting with a fellow cgn'er a few times, and he used some form of beeswax for cast bullets. Maybe pm hawk223 to see if he'll give up his trade secret!

There are several recipes out there for black powder lube. I can't remember what proportions I used, but I made some about a year ago with beeswax and Crisco. Does the job.
I think you'll probably find that 32RF will work best with a heeled, outside lubricated bullet. Hollow based would probably be the next best.

My black powder lube is a mixture of beeswax, olive oil and a touch of Murphy's Oil Soap. More oil for ml patches, less for cartridge bullets.

Would a guy be wise to load a few with balls first to make sure the firearm is sound I am under the impression you will see more pressure with a cast bullet.

had always best results with
1/3 beeswax and 2/3 porkfat, for cold weather (in winter)
and
2/3 beeswax and 1/3 porkfat, for warm weather shooting

I have only fired a roundball in mine . And although recoil is almost non-existent , I only load one at a time in the revolver because I'm a little nervous about the recoil kicking a ball loose in a neighbouring chamber and then having a chain fire.....the balls don't really seat that tight.
Can't see much gain in trying glue .......
