I just recently picked up a .350 rem mag and a buddy at work who's into reloading said I should try and load some .350 rem mag brass with the .357 plastic shot-shell capsules so as to be able to use it for small game as well as large. Now in theory it should work in terms of the diameter of the projectile being the same but to me I would think that the rifling would cause too much spin on the capsule and cause the pattern to spread out way to much to be effective. Also Im sure there is more to it than that. Just wondering if anybody has thought of this before or maybe even tried it.

Shot fired out of a rifled barrel produces patterns with huge holes. Comes from the way the shot string flies in a spiral sending the shot who knows where.
Otherwise, you'd need data for the weight of the shot capsule. CCI's .357 Mag shot shells are 100 grains using tiny number 9 shot with 1,000 FPS MV.
There's a 125 grain(unstated bullet make or type.) load on Reloader's Nest using 57.0 of IMR4895. Claims 2710 fps. Don't think a plastic shot capsule would hold up to that velocity.

I'd go with a pistol bullet at reduced velocity or maybe a round ball for small game loads. Firing shot out of a rifled barrel causes doughnut shaped patterns with a big hole in the centre.
8-15gr of any shotgun or pistol powder with a 357 mag pistol bullet (cast or jacketed) should do the trick. Trail Boss is also an excellent powder and gets rid of the change of a double charge.
