I read and posted in the necro thread; maybe a new one will get some views. I’m using 270gr Hornady SP/RP
bullets and I’ve got a bunch of RL17. First, any recipes that were accurate for you?
The rifle came with a brake which doesn’t stay tight so it’s off. I just replaced the factory recoil pad with a Nitro limbsaver. Cleaned the copper fouling out yesterday; it was thick. Checked all the screws, even changed the scope, still about 4 1/2” 6 round groups. I’ll try 3 at a time in case it’s heating up. I know the first thought is that I’m flinching, but this is my 3rd 375, and I’ve been around 1”@100M with the others at similar power levels. Launching 270s about 2770 today, was 2940 yesterday. I moved down to see if that helped. It will be a couple weeks before I get to the range again due to work.

Interestingly, this rifle is stamped jws, which is crossed out and IMP is stamped above it. It’s a late 1990 rifle by serial #. Maybe someone here remembers it.

After next week’s hunting trip I will experiment with removing the foreend, and also setting the tq on the screw to get it shooting a bit more precisely.

Given its primary purpose, 3 round groups are sufficient, although a #1 Tropical has a heavy barrel contour so heating shouldn't be affecting your POI.

I think something that needs consideration is that brass needs to have the shoulder bumped enough to ensure effortless chambering and bullets should not be seated so long as to make closing the lever difficult.

yeh in a Ruger 1, i realistically make sure 2 shots are close and the third (3rd) within reason...... depends i guess but accuracy doesnt need to be thru the needle, in my case anywho

I shot 3 rnds today with the forend removed. Cut the group size in half, to 1.8”@100M. Can’t hunt like that though. Also figured out the neck is way short, only 0.330”. I guess this was someone’s 1 of a kind custom. Get it bedded I guess.
