can i use varget to load 140 gr. 6.5x55 if so what would be starting gr.???

Varget is pretty fast for the 6.5x55. You will find much more happiness with RL-22, either of the 4831's or IMR4350 for 129-140gr bullets.

H4350 works well for me with the Berger 140 VLD, 3/4" groups. If I was to look for better I would go with an even slower powder.

Also had good groups with N204 with 140 +156/160gr.......... 46-47gr of RE#22 and a 140gr should shoot unless your rifle is an oddball...I use this in 3 6.5x55 guns....Harold

RL22, H4831SC or H1000 are all about the right speed - slow. varget will go bang, but too fast for best results.

Just finish reloading 50 6.5X55 SM to spec... full trottle load with 129 gr SST 47 gr of IMR 4831 cci BR-2, tomorrow is range day, i expect it to perform in my Mauser should get me over 2800 fps in that 29 inch long barrel, i will chrony all my loads... JP.
