Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out a starting load for the 7.5X55 using 140gr bullets and IMR4064 powder.

I know that with 168gr bullets it takes anywhere from 37-45gr of 4064 powder.

So would it be ok to start with 45gr of powder behind a 140gr bullet?

I'm fairly new to reloading, i've never had a bullet weight that wasn't in some previous load data to go from.

The bullet is a .308 cal.

Thanks for the help.

Start lower. Much lower. Steve's reloading page shows 130gr at IMR-4064 From 37.7 grains to 45.3 grains

and 150 grain IMR-4064 From 35.5 grains to 46.6 grains

I'd use the starting load for the 150gr load and carefully work my way up. Keep in mind that depending on what rifle you have, it may not be safe with hot loads.

"...Barnes make there(SIC)..." Figures it'd be the one maker whose site I didn't look at. Of course, there's no 7.5 data on their site. However, they do say to contact them for data not on their site.

"...powdered-metal copper-tin core..." That'd require Barnes data too. It'll fly much differently than a lead cored bullet.
