Reloading 7.62X39 Question

A few bullet manufacturers make the .310 for the 7.62x39

Barrys makes a good 125gr bullet. I also cast a 155gr lead bullet and size them to .310, must be gas checked or they lead the gas tube something horrible, but other wise work pretty good.
The bore on my Yugoslavian and Chinese SKS slugged out at .312" both rifle shoot any jacketed .310" bullet in 123 gr. weights the most accurately followed by the .311's
The .311's are usually in the 150 gr. weights and I use those for short range bush busting work. My powder of choice is Reloader #7 mainly because it works with so many bullet weights and types and you can buy it in any place that sells reloading supplies although I have plenty stocked up. AA-1680 is an excellent powder as well but nobody around here carries it anymore,I also like IMR or H-4198. I've tried several .308" bullet in my rifles but accuracy is poor past 50 yds. for my taste so I just save those for my 30-30 and 300 Sav.
Although I shoot J bullet on occasion I mainly shoot cast in my SKS rifles for plinking or dispatching small game and have for years. I load the Lee .312" 165 gr. gas check tumble lube bullet. I cast the bullet for wheel weight alloy and water quench,bullet is shot as cast with GC applied with the Lee .314 push through sizer it drops from th mold pretty close to .314"
for the cast loads Reloader #7 will work fine but I choose to use Alliant 2400 it's neither case capacity or case position sensitive. The Min. load in the x39 cartridge is 11.0 gr.s and the Max. is 15.0 grs. My Chinese SKS will cycle reliably with 12.5 grs. while my Yugo requires the full load of 15.0 grs. both rifle will produce 1" or less groups at 50 yds. with the irons.

I have never, EVER SEEN an SKS shoot inside 5" at 100 yards! They are normally "C__p"
If you have one that shoots good, you better keep it, and frame it! It is indeed rare!
My 7.62X39 Ruger M77 Hawkeye shoots both .310 & .308 just fine. I stick with the .308diameter though because of huge bullet selection, and the accuracy I normally get.

I've used both .308 and .310, with the .310's shooting noticeably better(although the .308's were 150 grain and the .310's were 125 grain vmax from Budget shooter supply)
