I recently purchased a Thompson Encore 7 mm-08 and have been trying to develop a good accurate hunting load for deer but am having a hard time, I wanted to shoot 130 grain speer as I have a few hundred of these but I am now working on 150 sbt sierra game kings hoping to find something good before deer season( 4 weeks away),I have a few different cans of powder,IMR 4350,4064,4320mWin 760,748. If anybody has a good pet load that they might share with me it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.---John

I use 47.5 grains of W760 with CCI magnum primers. Both rifles shoot under 1 moa with 139 grain Hornady Interlocks or 145 grain Speer Grand Slams. Velocities from a 22 in barrel and a 24 in barrel are almost identical as far as trajectory goes on targets out to 350 meters. The 22 in bbl actually shoots a 1/2 in higher at 350, go figure.

These loads are under 50,000cup according to the Lyman loading manuals. I tried H4831,4064 and 748 and also tried CCI BR standard primers with all of the powders. W760 and magnum primers were the most consistent.

In the past I've shot H414 w/ 162 hornady, varget w/ 139 hornady, and R15 with 139's and 120 tsx. I've settled on a warm load of R15 and the 120 tsx. sub moa, fantastic penetration, and very easy shooting.

I reload for two 7-08's one likes 47.5 grains of imr4350 with a 140 grain anything, and the other 45.1 of imr 4350 with the 140 nosler acubond. Both rifles shoot under an inch at 100 yds.

7mm-08

thanks for the replies, does near max imr 4350 work for 150 grs also as I am a bit limited right at the moment for bullets and my regular suppliers don't have much choices , maybe later and then I will probably switch to 139 gr sst when they become available, all I have is 130 speers and 150 sierras.

IMR 4350 will work fine with with 150 grain bullets. It works well with heavy for calibre bullets. I find, IMR 4350 also seems to work best when crushed or at close to max loads.

Do you have a hand loading manual? If not, Go onto the bullet maker's web site or the powder maker's web site for suggested loads.

7mm-08 reloads

I tried 47.2 gr 4350 with 150 sierras and 2 out of 3 real good but the 3rd went about 2 in. left, (max load in sierra man.),with 46.7 it did almost the same,I could live with this for hunting close range but where I hunt there are lots of shots up to 350 mark ,I might never hit a deer out there with this gun so I may have to use the old reliable 300 Wby with 150gr bullets, I still have some time so I will keep trying.

7mm-08 reloads

sorry I forgot to mention I don't have any barnes bullets and only a few 140s of any kind but lots of 150s,thanks for all replies so far,I will still be trying for a while

7mm-08 reloads

Thanks guys for all your help, I now have a load I can take to the bush ,just under moa at 100 yds, I upped the max load by .3 grs. to 47.5 imr 4350 with 150 sbt sierras a little compressed load but not a lot ,only heard a little crunch..Thanks again JPP

7-08 loads

140 Accubond and 43 grs RL-15, CCI200 primer works great in my beater gun (Stevens 200). Only getting about 2750 fps, but great accuracy and real consistent, less than 10 fps spread. Tried pushing it higher, but got minor cratering and measurable head expansion so I leave it right there.

45.5 grains of IMR4350 under a Nosler 140 grain Accubond produced extremely tight and repeatable groups in my Remington 700 CDL, using Remington brass and Federal LRP.
