Has anyone had good results reloading the 150gr bullets for the 8MM Mauser.

I have a Gew 98 built 1918 so it is a .323. It shoots North American made 170 gr Rem 8MM very accurately but I thought I'd try and work up a load for hunting deer in 150 gr.

I bought some Sellier & Bellot 8X57 JS brass and have H4895 powder along with Sierra Pro Hunter 150 gr Spitzer and want a reasonably hot load. I most I'd be shooting out between 100 and 200 yards.

Any feed back would be appreciated...

Here's some of my Chronographed data

8mm K98 Brno (sporterized)
150 Gr bullet
45.5 grains of Varget 2561
48.5 grains of Varget 2659
49.0 grains of Varget 2678
49.75 grains of Varget 2696
50.5 grains of Varget 2764
51 grains of Varget 2777 and 2821
52.4 grains of Varget 2896

170 Gr Federal factory loads
2215
2139
2138

As you can see those underloaded factory rounds are on par with a .32 Winchester Special

Ive had pretty good results with imr 3031 with the 150gr speer. My load was just a low recoil deer load. I think the velocity was about 2650.

Hodgon website should have a good load with your powder. Ive had good results with h4895 with the 195gr bullet.

H4895 is versatile a go to for me in my 8mm and .308. For 8mm, I use it with my Hornady 170grn Lead RN. I'd also suggest you go to the Hodgdon website for specific load ranges --> the sight came up with 44-51grns of H4895.

Yes I will be trying to work up to the high end as I am sure the old girl will handle the pressure. I'll likely start at about 47 grns which I hope will be about 2800 ft/s.
