Hey Gun Nutz,

I recently acquired an M95 from a VERY generous member of the forums and I intend to use it! I know that the ammunition is hard to come by as it's mostly milsurp these days, almost exclusively so in Canada.

So I'd like to find a source for cast, gas-checked bullets that I could use to hunt with, if the rifle proves to be accurate enough in my hands haha. Is anyone out there casting their own .329 diameter bullets?

A ready and easy option is that Hornady sells jacketed 0.329" bullets.

If you want to go cast, the first thing to do is "slug" the bore to determine the groove size. The M95 commonly goes 0.330-0.332" and you'll want cast bullets at least 0.001" larger than that. The limitation will be the neck diameter of your chamber, and you can get an idea of that by either getting a "chamber cast" done, or measuring the neck of a round fired in your gun. I have the Lee 0.329" mold and it's useful, but not in my M95's. For the M95, I use a Lee 0.338" mold and size it down (and use 338 gas checks).

"MT Chambers" might be able to accomodate your request for cast bullets, but you need to let them know the diameter you need.

I've tried the Lee .329 bullet mold too. I forget the weight at the moment. Casts as large as .331 with some alloys I've tried. Still experimenting with it in an 8X58R Danish Krag.

Slug your bore as Andy mentioned. I know my chamber neck is oversized too and not sure how to address that.

Best of luck and congrats on trying to revive an old classic to active duty. :)

They have a website.

I'm assuming a .36 caliber lead ball would be best to slug my barrel with? I'm going to see if I can find 2 or 3 locally to slug the bore with, then I'll check back in.

i use the hornady .329" bullets with enough IMR4064 to shoot to the sights at 100 yards. it is quite a bit slower than what the cartridge is capable of but i don't see the point in shooting 2 feet high.

the steyr M95 is a very nice, underrated rifle.

Go to Canadian Tire and buy a pack of large fishing sinkers - better yet, a pack with a variety of sizes. They're pure lead and softer than shot.
