for those of you who reload hand gun ammo, do you find it beneficial to reload 9mm? the cheap stuff is 13 bucks for a box of 50. how much does it cost you to reload 50 rounds of 9mm? my buddy has a couple thousand casings we can use to reload. but if the savings arent significant im not sure if the time required is worth it.
 
I reload my 9mm at about a 40% cost of buying factory loads. When you are talking about shooting 1000's of rounds it the savings add up fast. Than again, you don't "save" any money reloading, you just get to shoot 3 or 4 times more for the same cost of factory. So yes for me it's worth it.
 
If you buy primers at 35/1000, powder at 30/lb, heads (projectiles) at 80/1000, doing the math gives a total reloading cost of about 7 bucks per box of 50 rounds.

I cast my own bullets so my cost is about 3.50 per box of 50. My brass is always free thanks to guys at my range who do not reload:D

I tend to buy a case here and there just to have on hand if I am out of reloads, and don't feel like reloading, but generally I enjoy reloading and it is cheaper. You will likely not save money but you get to shoot more!

Free range brass = $ 0.00
Aim 124 grn = $0.10
5 Grn Powerpistol = $0.03
CCI SP Primer = $0.03
Totalling about $0.16/round

Reloading Cost = $8/box or $80/case

Cheapest factory 9mm is MFS = $125/case

Depending on the bullet choice, I'm between $7.50 and $8.50 a box all taxes in. Average price around here is about $14.25 after taxes. All in about 5000 rounds to payback, and for me thats about 6 months or so. So for me it makes sense. I get a poo load of free brass at the range and if I buy bulk on powder and bullets I think I can get it down to 6 bucks a box. If you shoot less than 2000 rounds a year, you are better of to just stock up when you see it go on sale.
 
I reload 9mm for about 8$/50. Around here.. Cheapest is $14.99/50.

My original press was the Lee 50th kit for about $130 with taxes. So I paid that press back in under 1000 rounds. Seemed like a no brainer to me..

Now I reload 9mm, 45ACP and 308 Norma Mag. It all started with 9MM.
 
About 8 bux for 50 I find. Not worth it if you shoot 200 a year. If you shoot alot though it is totally worth it. Buy a case and reload the spent cases. A few bucks can set you up with the lee turret kit, which i hear can turn out a couple hundred bullets an hour....
 
perfect thats a good savings right there. we shot off 250 rounds today at 13 bucks plus tax for 50 so it wasnt as cheap as it could have been. my buddy has the dies and a multistage press. looks like its time to get it set up and start punching these out. thanks guys
 
ive got a lee single stage press im setting up to load my 30.06 rounds with and were gonna start punching these out at my buddies place. i just hate collecting the brass that gets thrown all over the place, lol
 
OR, you could live in a shytehole like Yellowknife, that doesn't have any gun stores at all. When forced to shop at Can tire or Walmart for ammo, you are seriously S.O.L. if you want handgun ammo here. Its roll your own, or use your pistol for playing horseshoes.
 
that does sound ####ty, and if your crappy tire is like ours in southern ontario then you dont have any handgun ammo in it, shotgun stuff, decent selection of rifle, but its all crap generic stuff
 
I reload all my 9mm ammo and cast my own bullets ... works out to about $5.00 a box of 50 rounds ... after reloading approx. 900 rounds , what I saved on ammo cost paid for my reloading equipment ...

good to know, i wont go as far as casting but ill reload soon as well. i picked up a few boxes over the river the other night at 11 bucks a box, figure its 13 here and i was there getting stuff already, all brought back legally and bought legally. i guess customs doesnt care as long as its under 5000 rounds. next time i go over im gonna get a crate, i believe its 1000 rounds for 200 bucks. something around there. and eventually get to loading them :D

marvin the p85 shoots flawlessly, my wife and i put 250 rounds through it and it shot every one without an issue, very accurate and i love the trigger pull on it. very nice gun to shoot :D

Yup.. Throw you on a list and ban you from entering the US for 5 years.. I heard they won't even allow you to fly over anymore..

Stupid rule.. but true..

You require all the proper paperwork to export ammo or ammunition components.
