Hi

Always looking for advice about others personal loads for the 44 Russian. Any info on what powder and loads you use for your 44 Russian would be greatly appreciated. In particular looking for loads for a 240gr bullet.

Cheers

Hodgdon.com has reload data for the .44 russian. If you can get it, use a light (200 gr) soft cast bullet and drive it about 700-750 fps. These 19th century guns had much softer steel in the barrels, Try to stay away from hard cast bullets and jacketed bullets. Ben Hunchak can probably make up some suitable soft cast bullets for you. I have a lyman .44 cast bullet mould that throws 215 gr .430 bullets, which i bought for the .44 russian.

Just got home and checked my loading records.

5.5 gr Unique with a 200 gr cast bullet is a nice mild load in the .44 russian case.
