If you really want to impress her, use an extruded powder like 7828. Make a trail and throw lit matches at it. I bet you can't get it to light unless one actually stops on the trail. It takes quite a bit to light.
NRCAN did a video to show how "dangerous" smokeless powder can be. They built a room, framed as a house would be, put a door and windows on it. They then took an 8lb plastic keg of 700X (one of the fastest powders available) and put it ON TOP of a big propane burner. (they have since removed all details of how they set it up and only show results, in slow motion of course)
The powder ignited, there was a huge conflagration, it lifted the roof off the structure. However the glass in the windows were not even broken. Yes, most things in the room were blackened, and if you were in there you would have gotten more than just your eyebrows singed, but it was not like a bomb had gone off.
They tried to rig it for the worst possible scenario, and yes, it was not a pretty sight, but nowhere near what a propane or natural gas leak would have done.
