reloading belted rounds

Hi using near max loads for 300 Weatherby how many loads do you get with belted brass? Thanks

I have 300 Weatherby brass that has lasted for about 6 reloads, so far. I load 180 grain Nosler Accubond with 84.5 grains of IMR-7828, 3,240 fps, which is max load in the Nosler reloading manual. It's a German made Weatherby Mark V, 26" inch barrel. It kills from the one end, and wounds on the opposite end. I don't shoot it anymore, it bloody-well hurts! I've down-graded to the 300 H&H.

I use a die from innovative technologies that sizes the last little of the case before the belt. Brass was full length sized first. I went from 4 to 5 reloads to over 16 with no signs of problems yet.

What is making you give up on your brass for reloading? Loose primer pockets (likely very high pressure for your chamber and bore - regardless what a reloading manual says). No longer able to re-chamber after FLS - see above post #6 or consider the alternative types (Larry Willis die) that squeeze case just in front of the belt where FL dies do not seem to work? Split necks mean needs annealing. Is multiple issues - which one are you experiencing??

For a virgin belted case (300wm in this example) I neck up to 0.338" with a standard 338wm size die, just enough to expand the neck.

Then neck down so there is a slight crush fit in your rifles chamber, then fireform.

A load that is ~ 50 000 psi will form the case well.

I do this because the virgin cases I am working are 0.023" short of the chamber, that combined with up to 0.008" slop on the belt begets a case that is going to stretch upwards of 0.030" on the first cycle, not good for long case life.
