Hey all,

Well I order my reloading stuff but now I need a book. Any suggestions? I was thinking about Speer Reloading Manual.

Is that a good choice? Also does anybody know where to buy these books online or where to get an e-book?

Any help would be good thanks

:dancingbanana:

there is tons of data online, i have found that the powder manufacturers manual are usually best as they use a bunch of different bullets as compared to the bullet makers who use a bunch of different powders and if that made no sense, sorry....

i would suggest.....
the abc,s of reloading...
when you ordered your kit to reload,wasnot a manual included?i would also suggest you order a few manuals,just you can cross check the datta,s

I think any of the big bullet manufacturers have good manuals... Speer, Nosler, Hornady, Sierra... they all have good information in them.

Buy more than one, and bookmark all the relevent sites on the web, more data is invaluable, one manual is a disater looking for a place to happen.

Speer is a good choice. If you are going to get into cast, Lyman is pretty good.

The powder manufacturers all have data at their sites as well BUT it may not match the precise combination that you are loading so be careful.

LeStore carries the manuals. Look in the bullet section in your catalogue. Now whether the store has them.....;)

lol I am not rich, I can't buy every book ...... I will see what I can find online. Basically any book would be decent no?

I never got a free book with my kit I don't think

Just the Lee's hand press kit for the 30-06 along with everything to trim the casings. I would go and buy some power or bullets but I have no idea on anything about power yet so I was reading alot lately on the net trying to figure it out, along with what a slow burning or fast burning powder has to do with stuff and same with primers

im kind of a newbie at reloading also.... but the 30-06 is the one ive done most of my trials and errors on..
for a hunting round.. i use the 180 grain nosler partitions...with 55 grains of h4350 powder.

Care to explain what the H4350 powder means? I can't wait to learn how to do my own as people say reloading is so much better then factory ammo

Ohh They have both the Speer Reloading manual and ABC's of reloading. I think I am going to get both of them.

Thanks for the tip

H4350= Hodgdon's
IMR= Improved Military Powder (IIRC)
RL19= Reloader series.

A H4831sc means the cylindrical style powder granule has been cut in half (short cut) to flow easier in powder dumps.

Another useful tip would be taking precaution when you are using info from several different manuals. A load in the Sierra manual for a 180gr 30cal in your 06 will most likely have a higher max charge for a given powder than say a Barnes X 180gr.
Try to get the manuals for the bullet brands you plan to use.

I really like the Nosler manual, although alot of the velocities are way faster than I have ever gotten, because of elevation, humidity, temperture, etc are different from where they tested.

Welcome to the hobby of reloading, it is very fun and satisfying too!

Hope this helps,
Noel

Richard Lee's Modern Reloading 2nd Edition has lots of great info. The Sierra Manual also. If you plan to shoot Barnes bullets, the Barnes manual, or a membership to the online Copper Club is mandatory.

Also, the Hodgdon's Annual Reloading Manual (which is $10 and is a magazine format) is great. Hodgdon's and IMR also publish free basic data manuals, available where you buy powder and components.

Crap, the place I bought them from doesn't have them in stock at either store and since I put a Toronto address they don't ship them from Montreal for me. Sucks ... No chapters around my area has either of them either. :(

Also there are 2 ABC's of Reloading, which one is better?
