Reloading Case Lube

Nope. I buy Lee water-based lube for about $1.00 a tube. A 1 inch worm of lube will lube about 100 cases in 30 seconds. I swirl the brass around in a plastic pail with a lid. The lube is smeared around the inside of the pail.

Being water based, it cleans off easily. I usually size all the cases then tumble them for an hour to clean the lube or 2 hours to polish the brass.

When I ran out of Dillon case lube and couldn't find any in the local stores, I mixed my own from lanolin and 99% isopropyl alcohol to duplicate the Dillon product.

that is what i am thinking about doing... were you happy with results?

Thanks Ganderite! I'm going to order some and test it out... i been using dillon case lube so far.

i do a combination of the 2 methods listed above, lee lube mixed with 99% isopropyl alcohol about 1:20 or more alcohol as needed. the only thing is it needs to be shaken before use, but that's not a big deal.

with my 500mag brass it requires a decent amount of force to size dry in carbide dies but with the lee/IA spray i can size them with 1 finger.

The best stuff, by far, that I have ever used was STP engine treatment. A little tougher to clean off the cases, but man, it was like the cases were soaked in butter.

I wonder if you could use a dab of undiluted lanolin in a bucket and swirl the cases around in it like the lee stuff...

Ganderite,

How many cases do you have inside of the pail?

I use different sized pails, depending on the task. I only fill a pail half way, so I can get lots of swirl and shake action.

Pistol and 223 cases would be in the hundreds. Tonight I was sizing 308, and had about 100 cases in a smaller pail.

There've been quite a number of products I've used/tried over the years and in my opinion, at the top of or #1 on the list is Imperial Sizing Die Wax. I first started using it in case forming operations such as forming 219 Donaldson Wasp cases from 30-30 cases. A VERY little amount or application is needed, it works well and cleans off or is removed easily. A close second, or #2 is a product called Unique Case Lube by Hornady.

I've always used Hornady One Shot spray lube, it's been 2 years since I started reloading and I'm still on the original can.

I used to use One Shot, but... with the volume of loading I do a can never lasted long. It stinks and is quite spendy as far as lubes go.

I agree. One Shot is terrible and I have had problems with stuck 500 s&w cases while using it. Lee seems to work the best for me.

I use the Lee in a bucket method of I'm doing lots at a time.
If I'm just doing a small batch of rifle brass I just put a little RCBS lube on my fingers and spin the case with them before sizing.

One thing I've found with the Lee lube is you have to clean your dies after or else it will gum them up.
