I just bought my first box of shells, Challenger First Class, 1 1/8 1200fps. Are these hulls reloadable? Who makes them for so I can use the shotshell reloading data ?

They’re Cheddite hulls. They can be reloaded, but aren’t the preferred choice by many as their 2 piece construction isn’t as durable.

Thanks, that was the information I was looking for. I tried finding the good stuff, the one piece ones, at three different shops hoping to find some Remington STS or Federal Gold Match forgotten in the corner.

I think the Federal are just as bad as the Challenger. Winchester AA are probably the most easy to source, both hulls (as shells, if needed) and wads (Claybuster).

There's lots of reload data for the cheddite hulls...Hodgdon data center is a great source for zoodles of
Loads

Remington gun clubs are also a great reloadable hull. They're still built as a one
pc compression formed hull..like the old AAs were. The newer AA HS are a 2 pc construction ...and younshould use a lead in taper wad for them...it lessens the risk of the wad hanging up on the edge of the power cup insert.

The Federal Gold Medal are one piece hulls, so a much better choice for multiple reloads. The other Federal hulls are 2 piece construction.

As mentioned AA’s haven’t been one piece for years, but are a more durable 2 piece hull.

Remington Gun club are your best cheap hull.
Loads to the same recipes as STS and Nitro.
Steel case heads, but not that hard to resize.

I have loaded hundreds of them, usually for once and done in an autoloader. I am only familiar with Claybuster wads. You will want to use the 6100 wad for 1 oz. or the 6118 for 1 1/8 oz. The Claybuster 21xx series wads (Federal clone) will give you a dished crimp.

Bob.

I use Remington Gun Club to reload and have had good success with multiple reloads using a 366 progressive press, cheddite primers, 17-18grains claybuster 1oz wads and 1oz #8. I check the hull each time for splits on the crimp pleats and pitch when they are split of see through.
