Reloading Equipment/Consumables Appraisal

I'm looking at a lot of reloading gear for sale locally to me. Volumes of consumables (how full powders are/how many bullets left per box) isnt listed, so keep that in mind.

What would you folks value this pile of gear at - and would it be acceptable for me to finally get into reloading. How much is just the equipment worth if all the cannisters/boxes were nearly empty? Is there anything missing here that i would need to purchase before starting to reload?

If that lot came up for auction I would bid up to ~$500.00 with there being so many unknowns.

That Metal Matic press would have a used value of ~$400.00 if all the bits were there but without inspecting everything for completeness I would view it as a paperweight. The LEE presses probably have a used value of ~$50.00 each as long as the linkage is intact and not cracked as is sometimes the case.

The powder may have considerable value if the containers are full and not starting to decompose. If the case of rifle primers is full current asking prices range from $150.00 - $200.00. Again this is a crap shoot as there is no way of knowing how they were stored.

The brass all appears to be old - 30-50 years - and may or may not be of value.

The dies are probably the easiest to evaluate and estimate $40.00 - $50.00 per set if they are not damaged with plier marks or have bent decapping rods.

Like I said I would risk about $500.00
 
500 would be a good buy that I'd do in a heartbeat.

The big ponsness press looks weird to me, never seen one like this so be carefull with that one.
presses and scales and powder measure 250
dies 300
books 40
powders: could be a few hundred bucks if it's still good and cans are full (40/lb is pretty safe)
bullets and 22lr ammo; few hundred if boxes are full (30/box of 100)
primers; 10 per sleeve of 100pcs/ 100 per brick
brass: 0.20/piece

Parting out a lot like this for the stuff you don't want yourself will take a chunk of time and effort so keep that in mind.

Awesome. Really good info. Ill let you guys know if i get it, and I'll likely have some of the stuff for sale - lots of dies/brass for calibres that are useless to me.
 
I got a bit curious about the ponsness press in the lot and a quick google search shows it is a metalmatic p-200 turret press.
Looks like it is missing the handle at least.

In that case it is likely complete and that would increase the value of the lot a bit.

With the dies being mounted that far from the center I think it isn't as good of a turret press as a cast lyman or redding.
I have a ponsness 600 in 12ga and it has some flex in the shell plate so I assume this is build quite similar.
 
I would NOT buy powder that had been opened from ANYONE. I started with 2 eyes, 2 hands. I want to stay that way. Using powder from a container someone else opened is a gamble. gambling with explosives......

Kind of surprised that nobody else mentioned this yet. Opened cans of powder would have zero value to me, other than the excitement I'd get by lighting it all up in a firepit at once.
 
I would pay $500 for all, no problem. Depending on the sellers knowledge - original owner or estate I would start at $300 for all...if they dont know, they dont know. If you had to buy all those components today $1200 to $1800 on the table.

Ditto. Not worth the possibility of powder being dumped into the wrong container. Not everyone is super careful like me ;).
 
My general rules selling reloading gear (which often clears the market in under 3 days)

Lower End (Frankfort Arsenal, Lee) Reloading Equipment 50% of the lowest retail price + GST

Higher End (21st Century, Redding) Reloading Equipment 75% of retail + GST

All/any kind of Bullets, Primers, Powder it times of extreme scarcity (like right now) 90% of retail + GST

All/any kind of Bullets, Primers, Powder it times of of a Republican in the White House 60% to 75% of retail + GST

Any kind of once fired brass (ex. 223 same lot) is $25 per 1,000 (maybe even less) ...shipping on buyer if not a local sale.
No point in trying to retire on selling scrap metal!

IMO Its beyond ridiculous what people often think once fired brass is worth on the market....
Seeing some jokers on the exchange trying to get $50 + shipping on 100 pieces of mixed headstamp 223 they probably found at their range.
I just laugh.
